Nebraska Huskers are continuing their dream run, which might hopefully culminate in the NCAA title. However, this time their road to victory was filled with more difficulties than they faced against Florida and Miami. Their opponent, Dayton’s best player, Lexie Almovodar, wasn’t going to give up on her team so easily, despite knowing that they were definitely the underdogs.

Thus, she won her team the third set while they were trailing by a score of 2-0 with a scoreline of 27-25, pulling the game wide open. However, Huskers’ class eventually pulled through as their libero Lexi Rodriguez completed 22 digs in the whole game and won her team the required three sets to proceed to the next round. Now, with eight teams remaining, Nebraska is all set to face arch-rivals Wisconsin in a blockbuster game for the fans. It will be a game where the side will need all their players in their top form, which includes Lexi.

Speaking post Nebraska’s close victory against Dayton, Lexi Rodriguez was asked about her thoughts on their next game against rivals the Wisconsin Badgers, a match that has always held intrigue among the fans. The libero said that the game won’t be a walk in the park at all for the team, which is what makes it interesting. “So we know it’s going to be a battle on Sunday afternoon. But I think we’re really excited to just get out on the court and keep competing,” she said.

The interviewer then mentioned how the Nebraska Huskers have an edge over the Badgers, as they’ve defeated them quite comfortably twice this season. Lexi Rodriguez downplayed any dominance they have over their rivals, as these things can’t really be seen as such a huge dominating factor in knockout games.

She said, “I mean, it’s definitely a matchup that’s always super competitive, always a battle. And I mean, what more could you want out of an Elite Eight match? We know that it’s going to bring out the best in us,” she added. Thus, Nebraska is prepared for what is going to be a grudge match between both teams. This is because both sets of fans would like to see their opponent lose every single game.

Nebraska fans are not fond of Wisconsin at all

The notion that Nebraska Huskers fans despise Wisconsin Badgers has been reinforced with a hilarious incident that took place in the latter’s last game against the Texas Aggies in the Sweet 16. This incident was reported by Lincoln Arneal, a reporter who covers the Nebraska volleyball news for the Huskers Illustrated.

He wrote on X, “They just showed a Nebraska fan with a sign that said ‘Go Big Red’ on the video board. He flipped it over and it said ‘Temporary A&M Fan.’ The entire Devaney Center broke out into a ‘Let’s Go Aggies’ chant.”

This was a very funny moment in the game, which reflects the bigger picture of the animosity between Nebraska and Wisconsin. Neither of the teams really like each other and would give everything to win this game. These are the exact ingredients required for an exhilarating showdown in the Elite Eight, which will see one of the two brilliant teams drop out of the competition after the match. Hopefully, it lives up to the fan’s expectations.
