When life threw its toughest challenge her way, Katie Schumacher-Cawley stood tall and fearless. “I’m going to be healthy, and I will get through this,” she declared, refusing to let breast cancer dim her fire. On October 17, the Penn State head coach poured her heart out on Instagram, revealing her diagnosis—a moment heavy with emotion but shining with resilience. She admitted it was a lot to take in, but stepping away from the game? Not a chance. She went on coaching with immense determination, then took time to encourage her staff and players for their support.

And guess what? Cancer couldn’t stop a champion. Fast forward to December, and Schumacher-Cawley made history in the most legendary manner possible. She didn’t just coach—she conquered. In a 3-1 victory with the scores of 25-23, 32-34, 25-20, 25-17, Penn State clinched its eighth National Title making her the first female head coach ever to win a Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship.

This must do it as far as rewriting the record books is concerned. And now? Coach Prime celebrates her fight and the magnificent victory of Penn State. Yes, Coach Prime!

Does Katie's victory redefine what it means to be a champion in sports?

Have an interesting take?

Deion Sanders isn’t just a name—it’s a whole brand. Known as Prime Time and Coach Prime, he’s the man who did it all and made it look effortless. Today he is the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, but before that? He played in the NFL for 14 seasons and was a member of the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, and Baltimore Ravens. Besides, he accumulated two Super Bowl rings during his playing days.

However, why limit it to a single sport? Deion wasn’t built for limits. He played in Major League Baseball for nine seasons and wore uniforms of the New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, and San Francisco Giants. And here is the most interesting fact: he is the only athlete who played in both the Super Bowl and the World Series.

Yeah, let that sink in. But now getting back to Katie Schumacher Cawley, there is a latest on her battle with cancer!

Katie Schumacher-Cawley rings the bell!

Katie Schumacher-Cawley got hit with news no one ever wants to hear—her breast cancer diagnosis in 2024 felt like a full-speed freight train crashing into her life. But giving up? Not in her playbook. With the NCAA volleyball season knocking, she made her call—keep pushing, keep coaching, keep fighting. Fast forward, and here she is—fresh off making history as the first female coach to win an NCAA volleyball title, and now, another massive victory.

Coach Cawley took to Instagram to share her triumph over cancer, and in her words, “Well, we did it! Six rounds of chemo—done!” She rang that bell loud and proud at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine, closing out this chapter like the champion she is. But she wasn’t celebrating alone.

First up on her thank-you list? Her rock-solid support squad—“To Mike, Stella, Nora, Shea, and my Mom—you have seen the absolute worst of this battle, yet never wavered.”

The fight wasn’t easy. The exhaustion turned real between the chemo and the grind of leading her squad. After that epic semifinal comeback in the NCAA Championship, she could barely drag herself to the press conference, joking, “I’m tired. I don’t know about you guys.” But even through the toughest days, she had a whole team lifting her up.

She ensured them out—her coaching staff, the nurses, and most of all, her players. “My players—your energy, your humor, your presence every single day fueled me in ways you may never fully understand.”

But the truth is, they understood. Because of the same fire, she gave them? She carried that same unstoppable spirit through her own fight—and won.
