League One Volleyball got off to a stellar start at Atlanta. The inaugural game of the league’s inaugural season filled Gateway Center to the brim with 3,239 fans. However, things didn’t go their way in the broadcasting department. Fans complained of odd camera angles, cuts, unwanted onscreen stat insertions, and more. However, things didn’t get any better for Day 2 either.
Despite the match between Austin and Houston starting on time at the Fort Bend County Epicenter in Houston, the broadcast audience ran into issues again. This time it was even worse as ESPN+ was late to start broadcasting, leading fans to miss out on the action. “And to think this is a Pro league. Feels more like high school. Please get it together, ESPN,” commented an incredibly disappointed fan.
The user also had a good reason to express their disappointment. After all, NCAA volleyball’s stint on ESPN broke records, giving the network a combined 3.7 million views. However, more crucially, college volleyball, including the championship games, didn’t run into any broadcast issues despite generating millions in traffic. The mishap on the second, consecutive League One Volleyball game left fans frustrated.

Avid Volleyball made not one but a series of posts on X, covering the situation as it happened. However, the volleyball page’s posts highlighted how LOVB may not have been the ones at fault tonight. “Ok ESPN+ where is this LOVB broadcast?” questioned the page. Just minutes later, the page added to the thread pointing out that LOVB may have done things right.

“This is an ESPN issue,” added the page. Avid Volleyball accessed the live stream thanks to League One Volleyball giving users the option to do so from their Match Central page. “LOVB live online is working it seems,” announced the X handle, before writing, “Me waiting for LOVB/ESPN to get their act together because I dont have Disney+/Hulu lol.”
The volleyball age accompanied the post with a GIF of SpongeBob character Squidward, solemnly looking out from the window. However, many fans were just as upset with the continued broadcast hiccups as Avid Volleyball, if not more.
The fans were left confused with more than just League One Volleyball’s broadcast woes
Several fans continued to vent their frustration in the comments section. “It (would) be nice if I could actually watch it. I paid $11,” one fan commented on the LOVB Austin post. The fans who looked forward to the Houston vs. Austin clash were frustrated because LOVB had acknowledged their shortcomings during the first match. The League also promised to do better.
“We hear you! In our first match, we appreciate everyone’s feedback as we test and learn,” League One Volleyball explained in their response on X. They also invited further feedback, and so when viewers ran into trouble once again, they didn’t hesitate to point it out. Meanwhile, others also caught on that this was not a regular delay.

“It’s not live for me either. Usually, they have the stock ‘your event hasn’t started yet’ playing before the stream but I’m not even getting that,” explained a fan. However, even those who could access the stream raised another issue. “I am watching Houston vs. Atlanta. Or is it Atlanta vs. Houston? Not sure because the team name is not visible. Why? Make it easy for the casual fan. Great game going on! Just not sure who is who,” commented a fan.
The confusion in discerning teams even made the casual fan mistake Austin for Atlanta. The fact that the team names showed up as HTX and ATX on screen didn’t help either. However, it wasn’t all bad for the League One Volleyball broadcast, as they fixed some other issues from Day 1. Besides taking ensuring the stream was working from the Match Central page they also ensured the live stats updates functioned without the hitch, unlike the first match. Yet, what did you think of tonight’s broadcast and livestream? Did you also run into trouble? Let us know in the comments.
