Hillary Clinton and Billie Jean King react to historic women’s achievement in soccer

The landmark settlement between the US Women’s national team and the US Soccer Federation finally puts the issue of equal pay between US men’s and women’s soccer to rest.

According to the terms of the agreement, the USSF would pay a lump sum of $22 million to the women’s team. Moreover, it will also pay $2 million into a benefit account for the USWNT players for their post-career goals.

Hence, each player from the women’s team can withdraw up to $50,000 from said account. In that vein, with the historic settlement, US Senator and 2016 Presidential candidate took to Twitter to hail the news.

Getting equal pay shouldn’t require a lawsuit,” Hillary wrote on Twitter. However, according to Hillary Clinton, when it does come to a lawsuit, “the people who fight for fairness make the world better for all of us”.
