The Olympics are approaching and all the former and current Olympians are reuniting over fun tea-spilling sessions or a beautiful walk down memory. Similarly, some podcasts are also inviting debut or young charmers to inspire the common crowd. In the same vein, the swimming world, which can’t keep track of people weaving success stories, witnessed a phenom rise in 2020 Tokyo.
Kate Douglass, the one who broke Rebecca Soni’s American and U.S Open records in 200 breaststroke, has resurfaced. But this time, it’s for a reason that goes beyond competition and winning.

In a podcast named Kick Set, the USA Swimming podcast series, had invited the swimmer for a fun chit-chat. Her launching point, the Tokyo Olympic bronze medal-winning moment, still holds the most important position in her heart. The question the podcast host asked was, “So if one of these, these youngsters on the Doha team were to ask you like what’s it like to swim at Olympic trials and like what advice do you have for me? I’m going into my first trials, what would you tell them?” Sporting a ‘not think too much’ attitude, she went on with her speech.
Said, “Oh, I would say just try not to get too in your head before your race honestly. Just kind of, I feel like focusing on on your own race strategy and just being confident that you know how to do that race”. Further said that she is someone who loses her calm during these meets, but doesn’t want youngsters to feel the same. Let’s take a look at her path-breaking event in Knoxville.

Knoxville witnessed the queen emerge
Clocking a winning time of 2:19.30, the Pro Swim Series stop was nothing but a dream-come-true moment for Douglass. In 2012 and 2009, the standard and the US Open record that Soni had set, got smashed by Douglass in January 2024. Not only that, the Pro Swim Series record that Annie Lazor had previously set, just saw an end on that same historical day.

In the past two World Championship events, Kate Douglass had clinched the silver and bronze. Before she made such a massive stride, her position was on 15th at the all -time performers’ list and 55th on the performances list. Having done it big at the NCAA even, she had already broken the collegiate record as a senior last year.
