In Chapter 33 titled National Treasure, Jackie Chan wrote about an eighteenth-century artifact. “The Qianlong emperor came up with a device that would squirt water once every two hours,” wrote Chan. The timekeeping device also complied with the Chinese tradition of measuring time in twelve-hour units. However, the decoration of the device made it even more unique.

“He (Qianlong emperor) worked with artisans from both East and West and designed twelve bronze heads, one for each year of the Chinese zodiac,” revealed the actor. The twelve heads were that of a rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. According to Chan, the British and French troops destroyed the palace and “looted” the twelve animal heads in the mid-nineteenth century.
