Bruce Lee demanded the most realistic depiction of martial arts from stuntpersons. However, sometimes in his pursuit to make the on-screen action feel real, Lee accidentally injured people. Marital arts legend Jackie Chan once recounted how Lee accidentally injured him while filming?Enter the Dragon. Chan also said the martial artist always treated stuntpersons with respect. However, in this instance, Lee deliberately hit one of the stuntpersons on the sets of Enter the Dragon.

Lee’s co-star in Enter the Dragon, John Saxon, once sat down for an interview with the website Bruce Lee Live. John Saxon played Roper in the 1973 film. During the interview, Saxon revealed the bizarre incident that transpired on the sets of Enter the Dragon in Hong Kong.

The foolish kid who disrespected Bruce Lee

The interviewer asked Saxon if he could?“recall the events surrounding Bruce’s real-life fight challenges.”?Saxon recalled the incident.?“I saw a young extra sitting on a wall, loudly address Bruce in Cantonese,” said Saxon. The kid had taunted the Jeet Kune Do founder. “You’re just an actor for the Movies,”?the extra told Lee. The Wing Chun master didn’t take the insult lightly.

The actor said the martial arts icon?“beckoned the boy to come down… The kid foolishly did, and like Humpty-Dumpty quickly received a lightning crack to his face.”?John Saxon said the extra fell to his knees, and the whole thing was?“over in a flash.”?While the JKD founder didn’t compete in martial arts tournaments, he constantly worked to improve his skills.

While Saxon?thought Lee may have overreacted, the young extra had disrespected the martial arts master and his capability. However, tournament fighters like Chuck Norris and Dan Inosanto have vouched for Lee’s fighting abilities.

Not a stranger to being challenged

The legendary martial artist was no stranger to facing uninformed challenges that taunted or doubted his abilities. In Matthew Polly’s book?Bruce Lee: A life, the author wrote about another foolish challenger. A 230 lbs man once showed up to Lee’s dojo shortly after he demonstrated the iconic one-inch punch to the audience at the Long Beach International Karate Championships.

However, the man said Lee couldn’t generate such power. When he challenged the JKD founder to prove his mettle, Lee obliged. Moments later, the 230 lbs man flew into a wall and passed out from the force of Lee’s punch. After regaining consciousness, he no longer doubted the martial arts master.
