Martial arts legend Bruce Lee lived in the US for a great stretch of time. He desired to make something out of his life in the west. Although it was a gut-wrenching decision for Lee to stay away from his family in the US, yet, he dared to step out. On the day when Lee was supposed to board his ship for the US, his mother gave him an unexpected warning along with $100.

In 1959, Bruce Lee decided to join Washington University to build his career. So after spending a major part of his life in Hong Kong, Lee decided to move to San Francisco away from his parents, siblings, and friends.

On 29 April 1959, Lee headed to Victoria Harbor with a one-way ticket on the SS President Wilson, a high-end ocean liner. It would take Lee to San Francisco in 18 days. On the day of his departure, Lee was joined by his friends, siblings, and mother but not his father. People of his district had a custom where a father was not allowed to see off his son on a voyage.

While Lee was at the dock with his near and dear ones, his mother Grace did the most unexpected thing. She handed Lee $100 for expenses. Moreover, she also gave him a warning to only come home after he made something of himself. Lee not only promised his mother to be at his best in the US, but also to return only when he makes money.

When Lee reached the US, he eventually planned to earn for himself by providing martial art classes to the Americans. However, there came a time when he faced a huge financial blow.

Bruce Lee ran a kung fu club that once shattered

Before enrolling his name in Washington University, Bruce Lee ran a kung fu club in Seattle. He aspired to develop the club into a commercial business. Lee thought that it would end all his financial struggles. However, soon he faced a big blow when one of his students left his school.

Within two months, a large number of his students abandoned the club leaving Lee in a miserable situation. He began a part-time job to deal with his struggles. However, eventually, Lee decided to change his situation by manifesting that he will soon become the highest-paid Oriental superstar in the United States.
