The 2022 World Athletics Championships saw several athletes taste success. Sydney McLaughlin, Abby Steiner, and Fred Kerley won medals and silenced their doubters. However, Sha’Carri Richardson failed to qualify for the Championships and lost her plot in the qualifiers. On the other hand, track legend Allyson Felix appeared in her final competition and took home the bronze medal. Although she offered support to Richardson in her career, Sha’Carri thinks otherwise.

After a social media post had a picture of the four athletes who qualified for the 4×400-meter relay competition, Richardson cropped out Felix from her Instagram story and threw her under the bus. Fans reacted to this post and trolled her on social media.

Fans criticize Sha’Carri Richardson

During the qualifications of the Track and Field World Championships, Richardson failed to qualify for both the 100 and 200-meter events. She bowed out of the preliminary heats of the 100-meter and decided not to speak to the reporters. After that, she finished fifth in the 200-meter semi-finals with a time of 22.47 seconds. After failing to qualify, she appeared to give statements about her race exclaiming, “y’all should respect athletes more.”

But, things were different for Allyson Felix. She won a bronze medal for the 4×400-meter mixed relay while helping her team qualify for the 4×400-meter relay. Everyone appreciated her triumph, but Richardson cropped her out of the image. Some fans thought there was a lack of respect and took to Twitter to express their emotions.

With fans voicing their opinions, Richardson got criticized and trolled on Twitter. It was not the first time that she took a dig at Felix.

Shading Felix on Instagram

During an appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show, Felix offered support to Sha’Carri Richardson after having a tough time. Although she qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Richardson failed to jump on a plane to Tokyo after testing positive for banned substances. Since her comeback, events have not unfolded according to what she planned.

“She’s obviously been through so much, and I hope that she’s supported. I hope that people rally around her,” said Felix, who wanted her to get back to winning ways. To this, Richardson made a potential dig by posting an Instagram story with captions, “Encouraging words on TV shows are just as real as well nothing at all.” Fans across social media offered their thoughts about this, and they criticized her.

To sum up, the controversy is probably far from over. Cropping Felix from her status means they probably did not solve the issue. As for the fans, they voiced their opinions on Twitter. Hopefully, they can talk it out with each other.
