The track and field indoor championship of World Athletics witnessed Mujinga Kambundji flying through the 60-meter track in the final. Ultimately, the women’s discipline flourished with records on that day in Belgrade. With Kambundji in the top position both USA SC sprinters, Mikiah Brisco and Marybeth Sant-Price had to achieve their personal bests to earn the podium in consecutive berths. But that fabled event had missed its chance of showcasing two numero unos, unfurling their highest level of performance in the sport.

Recently, an X-post provided that prized insight into the track and field habits of two sprinting giants who still hold their names in the record list, albeit missing the 60m event. The revelation was supreme in its exceptional stance.

While the prized 60m indoor event is on the way, taking place in the Glasgow World Indoor Championship, the track and field raconteur Owen M popped up with his unknown facts. In its latest share on the X, the aficionado added, “Fun fact: Current 100m & 200m WR holders, Usain Bolt & Florence Griffith Joyner, never competed in the 60m.” However, in a later part, Owen M reminded about Flo-Jo’s exceptional run in the predecessor 50m indoor event in 1986. That fortunate SC event saw the fastest woman in history belting her opponents with a 6.32 seconds clocking. But for Usain Bolt, the 50 or 60-m sprinting shoes were never in place.

Rather, the Jamaican thoroughly enjoyed his running forms in the 100m and 200m events. In both events, the 37-year-old sprinter holds world records as Flo-Jo. Moreover, in 2014, Bolt flexed his indoor 100m WR as well. But for unknown reasons, he couldn’t delve into the shorter form. However, for the recent rung of spearheads, things are different.

The Noah Lyles factor

For Noah Lyles, the track and field engagements remain far different. The reigning world champion in 100m and 200m sprinting is already on the roll, eyeing to topple Bolt’s records. However, in that line, he also showed off his 60m sprint record, flouting Trayvon Bromell. Moreover, last year his 6.51 seconds timing came as a record.

In the women’s discipline, the reigning 100m world champion, Sha’Carri Richardson, was in her 60m track and field days when she was in her NCAA time for LSU. Her 200m nemesis in the WR, Shericka Jackson tries her 60m boots regularly. She was even in the 2022 Belgrade edition of the Indoor World Championship to fortify her chance. Nevertheless, in the days of versatile track and field giants, the past ones are still captivating in their own glories.
