In the world of track and field, speed plays a vital role, and Gabby Thomas has proved her worth in the discipline. Although she has to put up with tough challenges and relatively low earnings compared to her fellow athletes, the success of Gabby’s performances is evident. From record-breaking events to winning top awards, she has achieved it all.
Gabby has soundly defeated her competitors, who earned more than her, and established herself as the track queen in 2024. But as the conversation around her performances and earnings intensifies, Gabby Thomas lacks a bit, but the question arises: How much does financial success matter?

Gabby Thomas, one of the legends in track and field, started her 2024 by winning the US Olympic trials on June 29 with a time of 21.81. She followed this up by winning the Diamond League in London with a time of 21.82 in the 200 m event. It was in this manner that she started her 2024 season. But what about the top track event of 2024, the Paris Olympics?
Gabby Thomas showed her speed at the 2024 Paris Olympics and won three gold medals—one individual gold and two with the team. She started her winning spree by quickly bagging the gold in the 200m event with a time of 21.83 seconds. This was followed by two more golds in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays events. All of these earned her $50,000 and $12,500, respectively. Pretty decent, no?
As per the World Athletics, Gabby Thomas ranked 1st in the 200 meters for women with a 21.78 mark. Till June 28, 2024, Thomas’ result score wound up as 1261 points. But despite topping the chart, her earnings weren’t up to the mark. Gabby also won another $25,000 as she placed second to Brittany Brown in the Athlos, NYC, event. With this, Gabby ended her year with a whopping sum of $150,000. She could also receive another $50,000 because Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson were planning to pay $25,000 each to Team USA track athletes (to win gold at the Paris Olympics), but it is not yet confirmed.
However, other athletes like Julien Alfred earned somewhere between $1 million and $5 million as of July 2024. Saint Lucia alone honored her with $370,020 for winning the first-ever gold for the country. 23-year-old Alfred’s earnings were even more than Noah Lyles’. Are financial earnings more relevant than professional achievements?
