One of the biggest sources of breaking news in today’s fast-paced world is Twitter, now rebranded as X. Refreshing our feeds to get amused by a brand new update is what made X gain popularity in such a short period. However, since Elon Musk took over the reins, there has been a growing sense of discontent around the social media platform. While changing the name of the platform attracted significant heat, the fact that Musk fired a heavy percentage of the existing employees made matters worse to begin with.
Cut to 2024, and the common people are finding more reasons to not like X and are actually looking for alternative platforms to migrate! One of the main reasons for the same has been Musk’s active campaigning for Donald Trump ahead of the US Presidential elections. And now that Trump is at the helm, Elon Musk has been named as a member of his advisory committee. These are some concerning news for the masses, guess what? They have already found a suitable platform to switch to: Bluesky.
In recent times, renowned news outlets and celebrities have set up accounts on BlueSky. And joining in the bandwagon, the track and field realm too, looks ready for a change. Renowned user Alex Predhome is experimenting with some of his fresh content on BlueSky. And well, there are a host of other well-known names that you can find on BlueSky at the moment too. For example, the Grand Slam Track, World Athletics, and the Diamond League have all set up their accounts on the new platform. And with a full season coming up, we can expect a swarm of posts coming in for the users.

Legends of the track, like Michael Johnson too, seem to be intrigued by the latest X lookalike. Setting up his profile on Sunday, the Olympic gold medalist stated, “Haven’t left X but I’d like to. It’s been the best platform for dialogue, but too many people there are uninterested in productive and thoughtful discussion which is what l’m here for. I will reply and engage with followers. But if it turns to same as X, I’m out. Let’s have some fun!”
Now X still has most of his credibility from the past. Despite setting up their accounts, the users are not ready to ditch the platform altogether right away. However, there are some concerning factors that have contributed to the mass increase in dissatisfaction with the Elon Musk-owned platform.

BlueSky to topple X?
In the age of cyber attacks, the last thing people would want is to let computer software know the minute details of user behavior. Unfortunately, in the recently released terms of service for X, a concerning feature has come to the forefront. With effect from November 15, 2024, X will be analyzing user’s content to train its AI model. Such a directive has given all the more reason to the public to try and migrate to a new platform.
On the contrary, BlueSky comes with all of X’s features (photo, video, DM, and short message) and claims to be better. With the platform being decentralized, the users have sole ownership of their data. One of the chief highlighting factors for BlueSky is its alleged game-changing AT protocol.

As a result of the public outrage, BlueSky has gone from 6 million users to 18 million users in a matter of one week. And these are certainly warning signs for Elon Musk and X. With the po-n bots and crypto scams infiltrating popular platforms, it is of utmost importance for Musk to understand consumer preferences ASAP. Otherwise, we might as well witness an unprecedented moment where BlueSky would emerge as one of the social media superpowers, overshadowing the age-old and trusted X.
