The 2023 has been a great year for the American sprinting sensation Sha’Carri Richardson. However, she has reached this stage after bearing multiple struggles, personal loss, and extremely hard work. She entered this year with the mindset of doing her best and looking at her performances in 2023, it is safe to say that she did it. 

From the Diamond League Doha to the World Athletics Championships, she has dominated in all the events this year. Now, with the year ending, the World Athletics has also given a tribute to Richardson by sharing a review of her stellar performances throughout the year.

After a very questionable 2022, Sha’Carri Richardson came out shining brightly in 2023. From the very beginning of the year, she made sure to prove her prowess, especially in the 100m races. She kept her score of sub-11 in multiple 100m races and stunned the track and field world. Starting from the Doha Diamond League, she ran the 100m race in just 10.76 seconds, which is considered being the fastest time in the world this year. This was the biggest international win of her career. 

Similarly, in the Zurich Diamond League, she again defended her title and clinched gold in the 100m. Here, Sha’Carri Richardson reached the finish line in just 10.88 seconds. Her performance in the World Athletics Championships 2023 was no different. She gave a thrilling performance in her debut World Championship by posting the fastest time of the 100m heats. She achieved a 10.92 even after a delay due to a false start.

Sha’Carri Richardson in the mains of this event, clinched gold by clocking a time of 10.65 seconds and defeated Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. Not just this, she nabbed multiple other accolades this year, showcasing her dominant side.

Achievements of Richardson beyond the tracks

Sha’Carri Richardson, with her phenomenal performances in the Diamond Leagues and World Championship, also gave a terrific performance in the 2023 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She became the US National Champion in the 100m race by clocking a time of an impressive 10.82 seconds, which made her qualify for the World Athletics Championship.

Sha’Carri Richardson because of her staunch skills was also honored with a track getting renamed in her honor. On the 10th of November, a track at John Kincaide Stadium was renamed after her. This date was also declared as Sha’Carri Richardson Day in Dallas, Texas. With this, she ended the year with a bang by securing the title of the USATF Female Athlete of the Year. There are multiple more achievements that she bagged for herself this year, and now she is entering the Olympics year with her eyes set on the prize.
