US track and field runner Abby Steiner?s track season has sadly ended. The record-breaking sprinter, after not performing well in the 200-meter race of the US track and field championship in Oregon, revealed her reason to quit the season.

Abby Steiner took to social media to reveal that her left foot, due to a spur, has been injured and needs surgery to run properly. On July 13, a track and field reporting account posted the runner’s Instagram note announcing her injury on Twitter: “Abby Steiner speaks about her injury and shutting down the season.” In the note, Abby revealed that the athlete has been struggling with a bone spur in her left heel for the past six months. And despite the spur pressing against her tendon, the runner attended meets and workout sessions due to her passion for the sport. In the caption, the runner wrote, “For the past 6ish months, I’ve been dealing with a bone spur in my left heel that’s been pressing against my Achilles’ tendon. I showed up to meets, practices, and workouts in pain every day. She showed up with a lot of grit and a whole lot of love for the sport.”

Further, while answering a few questions, the athlete stated that despite the injury, she didn?t quit because “quitting was never an option.” Without trying to manage the pain, the athlete did not want to let go of going to Budapest. Sadly, after Steiner’s many efforts, that plan didn’t go through as she shut down the season for the surgery. Later in the note, the athlete also revealed that she is not quitting sports and is currently focusing on her mental health and well-being. Steiner ended her note with, “And I’m still not quitting. Just attacking the season in a way that’s different than I’d hoped with rehab and healing and taking care of my mental?

In Steiner’s last race of the 2023 championship, the athlete finished the race fourth after Sha?Carri Richardson, and Gabby Thomas in 22.07 seconds, making it to the final, which sadly she won?t attend. However, Abby Steiner is not the only athlete who did not make it to Budapest.
