Quincy Wilson is always having a great time! In Paris, he claimed a gold medal, before that, he set three world records in the age-based level of the men’s 400m sprint. And naturally, he earned a truckload of titles for setting up all the phenomenal performances in the contests. At 16, all of those things in a single bag can turn heads. The accomplishments can even bring arrogance to the achievers. Is Wilson suffering from such flaws? Certainly not. A prominent example has just come to the fore.
On December 7, Quincy Wilson had his moment. He achieved the USATF Youth Athlete of the Year for his phenomenal summer. The teenage phenom’s Midas touch ultimately worked everywhere this season, giving him the top results every time. That’s the reason the USATF couldn’t find someone better than him to take the laurel. However, on the same stage in Saturday’s award show, someone close to Wilson stepped in to take her reward.
It was Masai Russell. The Olympic hurdle champion had her turn in the award show as the winner of the 2024 Breakthrough Performer of the Year. Later, she ultimately made the moment super special by sharing an emotional post. Yes, Masai Russell took her time to pen down her share of struggles faced in the Olympic year.

In her Instagram post, the 24-year-old wrote, “I was tested, I doubted myself & my abilities, and I reached a point where I didn’t even recognize myself anymore.” That part rang a bell for Quincy. He eventually felt moved after knowing Russell’s story. In such a moment, he could shout out to the Olympian. Ultimately, he followed that. On October 8, the wunderkind re-shared Masai’s post in his Instagram story with the caption, “inspirational story.” In the auspicious award show, he managed a moment to pose with Masai. Their grins promoted the version of champions—winning ways despite facing adversities. Quincy Wilson has his own tale to tell.
While naming Quincy as the contender for the award, USATF focused on his record-breaking ability. Demolishing three age-based world records in a single calendar year is not a stroll in the park. The Virginia native can vouch for that. To make his mark in the pages of history, he had to counter his age, injury, extravagant fame, and whatnot. Still, he made his way to claim the glory. In the Paris Olympics, Quincy had to feel the hiccups. In the preliminary round, his leading off didn’t stand enough as the men’s relay team ended the 4x400m relay race in a compromised situation. But he didn’t give up. Result? Quincy won and is still winning hearts. However, it isn’t the first time he had flowers for Masai Russell.
Quincy Wilson knows about his big sis’s struggle
The journey to the Paris Olympics had never been a smooth sail for Masai Russell. In her athletic career, she had to see many failed attempts while trying to topple the bigger prizes. In her interaction with Montgomery magazine, the athlete said, “I have worked so hard my entire career and come up short every single time… I’ve never won an NCAA title … I’ve never won an outdoor SEC title. I didn’t win the USA Championships last year.” The emotions brought a deafening silence for her. But she never left her battle.

From finishing away from the first place for taking up the highest podium in the women’s 100m hurdles event in the Olympics, the story speaks for inspiration only. Quincy Wilson has an idea about that. He didn’t miss his big sis’s performance in the Athlos NYC, 2024. Although she failed to claim the first position, her effort attracted Quincy’s gaze. Later, he celebrated the performance by sharing an Instagram story, captioned, “The definition of overcoming adversity! Stayed focused and got the job done! super proud of you, big sis!” Once again, that mood settled with his latest Instagram share.
