“I want to get on that track; I want one of those bags.” These are not just the words of a young, happy-go-lucky kid. But also of a boy who made it his goal to reach it and told his mother. As they say, your mother would be your first teacher, and you get to know the world better. The same goes for Quincy Wilson, he got to understand the track better from her mother. His mother explained the environment and everything to him.
In an interview with Citius Mag, Wilson talked about his track understanding and how he got the motivation to be on track, especially to New Balance. During the interview, Wilson was asked what brought him to the New Balance Nationals. And what is he looking forward to?
Quincy Wilson explains, “I remember when I was little and running the AAU Nationals while my sister was going to New Balance. My mom would be telling me how great the environment was, how great the people were, and how great the staff were.” When Quincy was young, he got attached to track and field sports due to his family’s direct links with the track. He started as a track and field athlete when he was just 8 YO. His mother’s storytelling turned him on to the event. And he began to feel excited and in awe about New Balance Nationals.

“My sister came out there for her first race, and she PR’d—just because of the atmosphere. She wasn’t feeling good, but I remember that the atmosphere got her around the track,” Wilson further said about how the environment plays a vital role in bringing the best out of you. Quincy had a personal experience of seeing how an impressive and magnetic atmosphere would make an athlete go beyond the limit. This kept the memory alive within him, and this was a reinforcement of his dream to bear the same energy.
Sometimes, some moments are stuck with you throughout your life, and that’s the moment Wilson had. In the interview, Quincy Wilson said, “I always told my mom, ‘I want to get on that track. I want to get one of those bags. Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve wanted to step on the New Balance track.” His words showcase the long-lasting impact of his childhood aspirations paired with the dedication and focus that helped him reach where he is.

Who would have thought that Wilson would achieve a small childhood dream at such a young age? From being a track prodigy to breaking Obea Moore’s 30-year-old under-14 national record for the 400 meters, Wilson has done it all. He has also got NIL deals after his title achievement of New Balance Nationals.

Wilson fulfilled his dream in 2023 when he ran on the New Balance Nationals track. And he ended up winning it too with a time of 46.67 seconds for the 400m event. But the great that he is, he broke the record to retain his title for a time of 45.76. But his achievements go beyond the New Balance Nationals. He has touched a dream that every athlete dreams of.

And at just 16, Quincy Wilson has already won his first Olympic gold. The youngster reached the milestone at Paris 2024 when he won the 4×100 relay.
