The USA is just built differently. A by-product of great sporting prowess, cerebral porting infrastructure and active encouragement to pursue it as a career have caused numerous resounding successes. Team USA ended the 2023 Pan American Games with a whopping 116 gold, 74 silver, 83 bronze making up a 273 total medals. Brazil finished a close second with exactly 200 medals and was the only other country to cross 50 golds cumulatively. They wound up with 64 gold medals. The Americans’ medals tally fell 21 short of their best in the 21st century, registered in the 2019 Pan American Games.

Certain timings or distances that fall within the standards set in many sports would have ensured qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Unfortunately, in Athletics, though the 2023 Pan American Games serve as a qualifier, there are no direct quotas on offer for athletes. Regardless, Team USA ended that part of the competition with 25 medals, including eight gold, five silver, and 12 bronze. They topped that particular table, too.

Team USA has surely reached the zenith of success this time around and will continue to win hearts for posterity.

Team USA was really firing on all cylinders going into the last day of the competition. The last leg of the track and field events saw an upsurge in participation, racking up 25 magnanimous medals. November 4th saw them add six more medals in track and field events to their total tally. The US won gold in men’s pole vault, women’s high jump, and men’s javelin throw. A silver medal in men’s 3000m steeplechase followed, along with silver and bronze in men’s hammer throw. All in all, a supremely impressive turnaround and a year for Team USA.
