Who says 12-year-olds can’t have it all?  A 12-year athlete set a new record at Adidas Outdoor Nationals to prove that age is just a number. The sixth grader left the world in awe as she set a new record for a 100 m track race. The rising athlete is seen to be having high motivation and energy for her future in sports, as the young runner is working on forging her own path and breaking more records.

Her record surpassed the previous record set by Peyton Payne. Peyton had reached the mark at a speedy level of 11.75 seconds. However, Peyton is not the only athlete Dogget is leaving behind, Tamari Davis, an icon today, also set an 11.75-second track record in 2015. Davis is now a professional sprinter for Adidas. Nonetheless, young Melanie exchanged the seven-year-old record with a shiny new one.

On Friday, Melanie Doggett turned the history page by creating a new record for a sprint at Truist Stadium as The Atlanta-based Melanie covered the 100-meter track within a span of just 11.67 seconds. The 12-year-old who runs for Major Impact Track Club left many people shocked. Also, many people took to social media to talk about the athlete’s achievements.

In an interview with Mile Split, Melanie stated, “I didn’t do anything special. “I just pushed. It was a really fun experience, and I’m glad I got to have it.” the athlete added. Nonetheless, this achievement is a historical record. The athlete might be a kid, but she has already left her mark. However, the athlete’s day did not stop there, as she went for another race on the track.

Melanie Doggett is never too tired to run.

After just a short break, Melanie decided to run again. This time the athlete participated in the finals of National Elite. After such a busy day, the athlete still managed to secure a second position in the race won by Somto Igwilo in 11.63 seconds.

Dogget has an impressive record on the track; in April 2020, she finished at 11. 28 seconds. The athlete set this time for the Champion United Spring Track Series. Conversely, she has a long way to go and new marks to set. Doggett is an inspiration to everyone and her credibility and sense of retaining her age-appropriate personality can be attributed to her success on the track.
