The 2023 season has not been a great one for Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce. The 36-year-old started the year battling a nagging knee injury before entering the Kip Keino event. From there she had to take a short hiatus from the tracks. Later, after making a staunch comeback on the tracks of Spain and Switzerland, the athlete was faced with another setback in the finals. The 36-year-old lost the 100m World Championship to LSU sensation Sha’carri Richardson at Budapest. However, Pryce did not let this loss get to her but showcased her prowess by breaking a World Record at the Relay event.

After her disappointing loss against Richardson, Fraser Pryce was looking forward to the 4×100 relay race. The athlete who is aiming to win gold at the event qualified for the race with a record-breaking win on the tracks of Budapest. This astonishing win led by Pryce left Richardson silent. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is undoubtedly still an athletic legend for Jamaica. The 36-year-old Jamaican legend, with an electric performance in the first heats of 4x100m, secured Jamaica’s win. Amid this staunch victory, the Track and Field Gazette posted a tweet with the caption “Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce anchored Jamaica to victory in the first heat of the women’s 4X100m in Budapest, storming home in 41.70s!”

The Jamaican athletes, Brian Williams, Elaine Thompson-Herah, Sashale Forbes, and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce finished the relay race in 41.70 seconds. The time was the second-fastest qualifying time for the relay race ever. Britain secured 2nd position in the event in 42.23 seconds and Switzerland claimed the last with 42.64 seconds.

The last time the Jamaican women’s team won a Gold for the 4x100m relay was in 2019 at Doha. Fraser-Pryce was also a part of that team Shericka Jackson, Natasha Morrison, etc. Determined to win Gold yet again at a four-year gap Pryce has stormed into the finals with her team this year. This win for the Jamaican legend came after her loss at the 100-meter event. The legendary athlete was only able to secure bronze in the 100-meter race.

On the third day of the event, Shelly-Ann-Fraser-Pryce went against Sha’Carri Richardson. However, the 36-year-old who started off her season with an injury, did not achieve the results she wanted. The 36-year-old Fraser-Pryce ended the race in third place on the podium by clocking in at 10.77 seconds.

While her track rival Sha’Carri Richardson clinched the gold in 10.65 seconds. After the devastating loss, Fraser revealed to the media, ‘You don’t have to always know the answer; you just have to come and fight. And tonight I’m really grateful that I’m walking away with a bronze medal.
