The Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics are currently underway and have caused a stir among the track and field fandom. With a multitude of budding talents and young prodigies, the event has garnered the attention of many across the globe. Along similar lines, the 13-year-old sprinter recently added brownie points to the event through his incredible prowess on the track.

In a video shared by the NBC Sports director Travis Miller on his X handle, a 13-year-old athlete stunned the crowd with his incredible performance. His performance got noticed and appreciated by the spectators both on and off field.

13-year-old Gideon Newton participated in the Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics age group track and field race of 400 meters. It was the preliminary round of the race. The race started and the young star from Alabama raced without fear and gave his all to the round. He dominated the race from the start and won the race in a blazing 49.11 seconds. He broke the previous record of 49.98 seconds that was set last year.

Gideon beat his nearest rival by over three seconds. With his preliminary round performance, the kid was all ready for the coming race. He also won the 200M race at the same event in 22.48 seconds. He has a brother named Celeb Newton who is also an athlete and participated in the event. Both brothers have managed to secure part of the fund for the expenses of the trip to the event through a gofundme campaign.

The 13-year-old’s performance amazed the fans, with many of them thinking that he is going to smash the world records in the future. Gideon is a regular participant in the Alabama heat club. He is an active athlete there since 2018. He had run in every category over the years with regular appearances in 200M, 400M, and 800M. Last year he also took part in 100 M, 4X100 relay, and 4×200 relay races.

The 2023 AAU Track and Field Junior Olympics the seven-day event concluded on the 4th of August. The young athletes took part from all over the country in an exciting competition. This competition is held yearly and is organized by the Amateur Athletic Union. Interestingly, the AAU championships were established in the year 1888 with the goal of “Sports for all, Forever“. It is one of the largest non-profit, multi-sport event organizers in the country.

The organization has approximately 720,000 members and 150,000 volunteers for 45 sports programs across 55 U.S. districts. Among its 45 sports programs, the AAU Junior Olympics Games is the largest event in the country.
