“Can I do it? Can I do it?” The twin sisters, who were valedictorian and salutatorian of their Long Island High School, had doubts as they headed to Yale. Academically and athletically gifted, Victoria and Gloria Guerrier, both All-County and All-State honored students, have already set some big records at their University. As Yale competed against its local rivals Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart for the Yale Season Opener, the Guerrier sisters knew it was their time to shine!

With ambitious goals for the upcoming 2024 Olympics, they wish to create history for Haiti; their parent’s native country. While we might have to wait to see them at the Olympics, they have already set the tone of their career, the most recent development being setting a new record at their first indoor season performance at Yale.

In a Facebook post, The Haitian American shared, “On the track, the 500m proved to be a highlight with Yale taking the top four spots – including a school-record 1:12.41 from first-year Gloria Guerrier, who finished just ahead of her sister Victoria Guerrier.”

“Gloria ran the fastest time in Yale history, breaking the school record of 72.9 seconds by almost half a second. Gloria has the fastest time in the Ivy League and the third fastest in the nation. Her sister Victoria ran the third fastest time in Yale history.

In March 2023, Gloria Guerrier and Victoria Guerrier graduated at the top of their class at West Hempstead Secondary School. With a 105.3 GPA and 104.9 GPA respectively, they had finished in the top 5% of their graduating class. The Valedictorian and Salutatorian accepted the offer from Yale and joined their incoming freshman class in the fall. The teenage prodigies ran cross country and competed in sprinting and volleyball competitions during their high school tenure. After joining Yale, their athletic achievements have progressed even further.

In fact, when the news of the sisters going to Yale was made public, their school Principal Joseph Pumo stated, “… you can tell that they are special young ladies and that their ability to create a goal for themselves and create a plan and stick with that plan and their persistence was evident.”

Further, the sisters inspire each other. They are highly competitive and use each other for improvement; like how iron sharpens iron. While others in their league look forward to trophies for eternal recognition, the Guerrier twins can rely on their humanitarian efforts beyond the tracks.

During the global pandemic, the two sisters jointly worked on a government project for the Food and Drug Administration. They co-authored a research paper on preventive measures for Covid-19. They even racked up accolades for their environmental activism by authoring a paper on biodegradable masks and their impact during the Samsung contest.
