Since the Olympics doesn’t hit the global stage annually, it holds paramount importance as the grandest event. Not every athlete gets a scope to make it to the stage in their entire career. But those who do can’t thank their universe enough. Along similar lines, the 32-year-old long-distance runner Emily Sisson, who had set the North American marathon record in 2022, has a lot to prove at the French Capital this year.

It’s not unusual for athletes to engage in candid interview sessions before hitting the tracks on Saturday. ‘The no.1 seed at the Olympic Marathon Trials’ was invited in a similar setting by letsrundotcom. Having survived a post-injury stitch and completing 10th in Tokyo was one of her biggest accomplishments. Again another Olympics, what does she think of making a team?

No matter how old an athlete is, the greed for unfurling victory flags isn’t bounded by age. Similarly, when host Wejo asked Sisson about her thoughts on “make Olympics”, she didn’t shy away from showing excitement. She said, “Less pressure I guess having made a team in the past. But I want to make this team really badly. I, for a few reasons, I’m really motivated to be back at the Olympics. I’d like to have another like Olympic experience”. Having made her marathon racing debut at the 2015 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with New Balance, Sisson always had a soft corner for 10k. Though her event can be taxing, her spirit never dimmed.

But the U.S. national record for high school girls title holder had faced a mild blow at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Ending up with a stitch, it was enough gutsy for her to continue her run for the coveted title clinch. Now, sitting in 2024, let’s dive back to her injury post, that had left her Insta fam frenzied.

Sisson’s injury story and her healing journey

Taking to her Instagram, she wrote, “A few weeks before Tokyo, my knee started to hurt pretty badly. I might not have had the Olympic build-up I wanted, but I am really proud of the work my team & I did in that time!” Further continued, “I took a week off after Tokyo hoping to heal. Not for a lack of trying, I haven’t really been able to train for 2.5 months now”.

Winning the USATF road 10k Championships in 2016 and 5k in 2018, Sisson has been on a victory spree since she started. For an athlete of such a measure, keeping her mental and physical well-being first had rewarded her with accolades from global fans. How she will work her way to the top in Paris is a matter of only 6 months now.
