Micah Williams, the American track and field athlete is known for his staunch passion in sports. The athlete specializes in the 4 x 100m relay. In 2021, he garnered nationwide fame and Olympics qualifications after he made the Oregon school record of 9.91 in the 4 X 100m relay. Williams has won a few championships in sprinting. In 2021, he won the Pac-12 Championships in 100 meters and he also won the NCAA indoor championship in 60 meters. However, this year Williams finished seventh with a time set of 9.99 seconds in the NCAA Championships in the 100m.?

Besides track and field, the athlete also possesses a zest for football since he was in high school. He used to play football in his fresher days in school but he opted for track and field as his priority.?In July 2023, he tweeted that he wants to play football, and in less than a week of the fall camp, he was seen on the football field. His desire to join a football team is something that fans also wanted to see, but there were no official updates. Will Micah Williams turn his desire into reality?? ?

Williams?s desire to play football soon became a reality when Lanning shared his thoughts on Williams. It is now confirmed by Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning who announced that he wants to give Williams a chance in his team to play football. He asserted, ?Micah wanted to play football and we want to give him a chance to see if he can.?

Lanning also mentioned that Micah has not played football since his freshmen year at Portland?s Benson Tech high school and one cannot coach so fast to modify a sprinter into a football player. But Micah is fast and Lanning was excited to use that skill of speed.

 

Williams is added as a wide receiver who can use his speed in the team. On 8th July, before the announcement, the track and field star was caught practicing in the Hatfield Downhill Complex. Now the 21-year-old athlete is listed on the 2023 Oregon Football Roaster. A Twitter handle Travis Miller shared Williams? listing in the Oregon Ducks with details about his position, class, and school. But Williams is not leaving the track and field entirely, Manning discussed this with Micah?s sprinting coach Jerry Schumacher. Rather the idea is to make Williams the latest sprinter and football player in the program’s history.?

Widening opportunities for the track and field star

Seeing his passion and desire to play football, Lanning added Micah Williams to his team. But Williams?s first priority is track and field, and football is merely to widen the scope for the athlete. Dan Lanning discussed it with Jerry and they both agreed on this. Lanning added, ?It?s our job to see if it?s going to be a fit for him because he?s obviously got a long career ahead of him in track. That doesn?t change.??

According to the Oregon Ducks? coach, it is just a few days since Williams joined the football team and there is a lot of training to do. However, with this interesting speed in the Wing T offense, Williams played pretty well. Along with other receivers like Tez Johnson, Gary Bryant Jr., and Cornerback Rodrick Pleasant, Micah is also enhancing his speed skills. Ducks? Wideout Kyler Kasper said they will be racing to test who is faster. Conclusively, the team acknowledges Williams? speed and he also fulfilled his dream to play football.?
