Several athletes who competed at the 116th edition of the Millrose Games have been making waves since they were very young. At the inaugural 2024 indoor event, the New Balance Grand Prix, the world saw the US icon Tia Jones clocking in before track sensation Tobi Amusan to claim the 60m hurdle victory. To everyone’s surprise, the former U20 World outdoor champion’s winning streak failed to remain intact because of an emerging Bahaman star.

By dint of sheer hard work, Devynne Charlton clocked in at 7.67s at the Millrose event on February 11. The record time was hard for her rivals to match, even for the 2016 USA Junior Championships 100m hurdle champ, Tia Jones. Finishing third, Jones let her heart out, resorting to the Instagram stories.

7.67s was Charlton’s record 60m hurdle time, which she easily earned in a thunderous feat. Pushing reigning champ Danielle Williams farther away, the 28-year-old broke Swedish track artist Susanna Kallur’s 7.68s. The former couldn’t believe her ears until she saw her name pop up on the WR board.

Though this was a victorious moment for the Bahaman crowd, Jones sighed but promised to not hold herself back. Her Instagram story caption reads, “Not the best and not what I was looking for but I still went 7.79 and came out third”. The next line “See you next week at Nationals” stole the limelight.

At just 23 years of age, Tia Jones has the ‘best ever time set by a 15-year-old athlete’ title under her belt. Till Jones prepares for her next mark-making event, let’s have a real taste of the event which has the Bahaman athlete reigning on top, who’s on a mission to add more such wins to her repertoire.
