Noah Lyles is one of a kind and an absolute beast in the world of track and field. The athlete has soared to fame for his electrifying performances and breaking records of top-notch sprinters including Michael Johnson’s 100m record (19.31) at the 2022 Worlds and Usain Bolt’s infamous 200m record on the tracks of London this year. Following these wins, Noah Lyles was also able to win the 100m (9.83) and 200m race(19.52) on the tracks of Budapest this year. However, things have not always been like this for the newly crowned world champion.

Before the beginning of his track and field journey, 26-year-old Noah Lyles battled many issues in his childhood. The athlete suffered from many breathing issues and had to spend six years tackling them through painful procedures. Recently, the athlete went candid about his issues in a podcast as he revealed saddening details from his childhood.

In July, Noah Lyles was invited to Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell’s podcast, “Fast Lane Lifestyle.” In an almost one-hour-long podcast, the 26-year-old Noah discussed many intriguing topics including his 200-meter record and childhood struggles. The 26-year-old Lyles, while revealing the reason behind lacking confidence in youth, told the Jamaican sprinter “I was not confident as a kid. I was born in Gainesville, Florida. I was diagnosed with severe asthma very early on. I was constantly in the hospital being on breathing machines.”

Further, while talking about the surgeries and procedures the athlete had to go through for six years, Lyles stated, “They’re giving me steroids to make sure my lungs just work well, and that went from like two years old to about eight years old. So we eventually leave Gainesville. I had to have surgery; I got my tonsils pulled and my adenoids removed as well.”

Lastly, after this long battle, Lyles was able to improve his health and work towards his future. The 26-year-old Noah Lyles, who knew he was good at sports due to his parents’ genes in athletics, paved his way toward pursuing a career in athletics. Currently, the athlete is a two-time world champion after an incredible ongoing season.

The remarkable season of Noah Lyles

This season has helped Noah Lyles forge his name alongside the top-tier names in track and field. The 26-year-old sprinter began his season by breaking Usain Bolt’s 200-meter record at the Diamond League. After his win at the London Diamond League, the sprinter surpassed Bolt (34) to have the most recorded wins (35) under 20 seconds.

Further Joining the GOAT of athletics shoulder to shoulder at the 2023 World Athletics Championship, Lyles became the first sprinter to clinch both 100m and 200m accolades on the Budapest tracks since Bolts win at the 2015 World Championship.

To end his incredible season the Olympian is looking forward to uplifting the prestigious Diamond League trophy in Oregon. The athlete after making a comeback at the Prefontaine Classic will be participating in the 100m finals at the Hayward Stadium. The event will take place from 16-17 September.

From battling serious health issues to breaking records set by legendary sprinters, Noah Lyles has undoubtedly come a long way. The athlete’s dedication to reaching the pinnacle has also raised the bar for other track and field athletes.
