The U.S. versus Jamaica’s rivalry is famous in the track and field world. The World Athletics Championships saw this rivalry in action as Sha’Carri Richardson gave the Jamaican sprinters a crushing defeat in the 100-meter and the 4x100m relay events. After winning the first gold medal in Budapest, the Carter alum spoke of solidarity and respect for her Jamaican competitors. But yesterday, teammate Noah Lyles’ girlfriend turned all her good work to naught.

U.S. sprinter Noah Lyles is dating Junelle Bromfield, and the two recently celebrated their first anniversary. Yesterday, Bromfield posted a picture alongside a Jamaican athlete that might make things awkward between Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson.

Sha’Carri Richardson was determined to trounce both Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson at the World Championships. Her resolve bore fruits in the 100-meter event, where she left the defending champion Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson in her dust. The 23-year-old American superstar created the world record and also tied with Jackson for the fastest time of the year. Richardson led the charge against the Jamaican rivals once again in the 200-meter final. Sadly, she lost the race to Shericka Jackson and walked away with the bronze medal. It’s safe to say that their rivalry remains fervent, with tensions escalating on the track. In the current context, Noah Lyles’s girlfriend, Junelle Bromfield, has shared a picture on her Instagram account featuring herself alongside Shericka Jackson. In the Instagram story, the two women were laughing, while the caption read “Jacko”, with a red heart symbol, which expressed their deep feelings for each other.

The photo was taken in Zurich where both Sha’Carri Richardson and Shericka Jackson will face off one more time. Tonight, the two battled in the final 100-meter race for the Zurich Diamond League. Bromfield’s post indicates her support for both Jackson as she prepares to face off Richardson in a highly anticipated showdown. This is not the first time that Bromfield has expressed her loyalty to the Jamaican athlete.

Junelle Bromfield’s alliance with Sha’Carri Richardson’s rival

Junelle Bromfield created quite a stir by congratulating the Jamaican team ahead of the U.S. team, which included her boyfriend, Noah Lyles. Later on, she celebrated Lyles’ winnings with grand gestures on social media. The Jamaican athlete also congratulated Shericka Jackson when she defeated the Dallas native in the 200-meter. But, she did not have one word of praise for Sha’Carri Richardson after her impressive performance in the 100-meter and the 4x100m relay.

Bromfield skipping out on congratulating Richardson may be tied to the years of rivalry between them. The Jamaican icon had defeated Richardson in the Prefontaine Classic, for which the latter took revenge in the 2021 Città di Padova meeting. This would make it natural for Bromfield to keep the American 100-meter world champion at arm’s length.
