Losing out on something despite putting forward an impressive feat was a big loss experienced by our Saint Lucian star Julien Alfred, coming in the form of the World Athletics Athlete of the Year honor. Slipping on the opportunity, the sprinter wishes to strengthen herself more in the 200-meter category. With intensive training in the presence of coaches, Julien’s motive is now set to focus on what lies ahead. “I think I have a lot to work on, get stronger in my course straight for my core. I think that getting stronger mentally as well as physically is really what I have to work on.”
Stating that she is working alongside her coach in a recent episode of Out D Blocks, Julien, in discussion with Leon Leevy, further reflected on strengthening her strong base in her 200-meter category. “I think my coach is going to work with me in how I feel about the 200 and getting stronger and being more comfortable in running the 200, yes, so I might do some longer races. I don’t know, but I think he’s trying to help me get stronger mentally as I approach, you know, the 2025 season, yes, especially as it pertains to, um, the 200.” Taking away the silver medal in the 200-meter event in the Paris Olympics, Julien Alfred’s journey is into something big.

With a promising career, Julien Alfred, carrying a highlighting professional journey in the track and field community, now suffers under two sailing boats. One boat is sailing with several accolades of her career, with the title of second fastest woman all-time indoors, the fastest Caribbean woman ever, and the second fastest woman outdoors of the 60s event. The second boat, however, carries much weight on emerging or nurturing a new version of herself as more experienced and mentally strong.
For now, the Saint Lucian Olympian’s future plans are eyeing out to participate in the 2025 Tokyo World Championships scheduled in September.
