Home/Track & Field

A sprint love story does not come often in track and field sports. But when it does, it makes sure to steal the limelight. As the story of Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield has done. After dating each other for two years, on October 13, the athletes announced their engagement. And since then, the story has thrown up some beautiful couple-goals. Example? Check their updates on their new home. Further example? Recently, Noah Lyles intervened when Bromfield faced online hate. How? Let’s find out.

Last week, Netflix released the second edition of the Sprint docu-series. The four-part docuseries have primarily focused on the events surrounding the Olympic track and field trials and the Paris Olympics. However, the critics say that Sprint has revolved around only Noah Lyles, hyping his accomplishments in the French capital.

Also, Letsile Tebogo criticized it, claiming the series was an “American show.” The argument is on giving almost little or zero space to other short-track athletes while the lens has revolved around Lyles. Recently, another track and field sports enthusiast pointed out another flaw.

On November 14, the fan posted on X, “Junelle’s entire role in the #Sprintnetflix series is to prop Noah up and act like his cheerleader. Nothing about her talent or her quest to the Olympic faces.” However, later Bromfield responded by penning, “And she is getting paid to do it . Must be exhausting.” In the meantime, Noah entered the debate and posted, “Easy Money.” Are you missing the context here?

It is all about Junelle’s appearance in the Sprint series. In the four episodes, she has found better screen time compared to many other athletes. But the lens has never captured her in athletic mode. Rather, it has focused on her ‘girlfriend’ avatar. But in the Paris Olympics, the Jamaican had more than one role. She entered the 33rd Games as the bronze medalist from the Tokyo edition. She has her berths in the women’s 400m event and the 4x400m relay mixed event. However, in both events, Bromfield failed to do justice for her fame.

In the women’s 400m event, Noah’s fiancée had to face elimination in the semifinal round after finishing in eighth place. On the other hand, in the 4x400m relay mixed event, she advanced to the final with her Jamaican team. But the same result followed her there as well. She ended the event by capturing the fifth position. However, the makers of Sprint have not placed these performances into the series. However, in the episodes, several Jamaican athletes have cut in. But Junelle’s athletic version is not there. Rather, she appears in the entire series, being Lyles’s girlfriend only.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Junelle Bromfield just a cheerleader, or does she deserve more spotlight for her own achievements?

However, as per the sprinter, she has received her payment for the role. Noah Lyles has also supported her comment. But in the middle of this, the six-time world champion has posed to be the rock behind her by thwarting another online attack. And he has been doing this for quite a while. How?

Noah Lyles stands to be the guard in front of his fiancée

The issue started in July when Noah Lyles appeared in Track World News. He entered the podcast to share his undisclosed track stories. However, he candidly said in the conversation, “I have been getting the drama from Jamaican camps for at least five years now.” He further shared, “There’s a lot of times I make references about Jamaicans but I am not trying to go back and forth, like I know information that other people don’t.” By those lines, he was pointing at the tantrums in the Jamaican dressing room. And as per him, Junelle Bromfield shared those stories with him in loose moments. That revelation opened a volcanic eruption for Junelle.

She had to face unforgettable online attacks from Jamaican fans, calling her a “Traitor.” She even found it hard to return to her birth land after the Paris Olympics, fearing an attack on her life. Nonetheless, Noah stood beside her. The Olympic champion didn’t publish any justification for his comment. But he did something phenomenal to save his love. In an interaction with People magazine, the 27-year-old said, “We’re both Olympic medalists, we’re both two-time Olympians, we’ve been to multiple world championships together. And even though our journeys are different, we still are fighters and we have a lot of the same qualities.” Not by just comments, Noah took the responsibility for Bromfield’s wellness, and his entire family came in support. Now, yet again, the fastest man on earth stands with her. Isn’t that something cherishable? What do you think about this?
