Finally, one of the most anticipated track and field events, the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix is underway in Boston. The top athletes with their eyes set on the Paris Olympics are girded up to deliver exceptional wins. We will see a mix of World Champions and Olympians racing in this prestigious event. After having an exceptional meet and greet session with the fans, the athletes are in their best form. From Noah Lyles to Josephus Lyles, to Gabby Thomas, all the top-notch athletes are ready to wave the American flag high. Jake Wightman after a grappling injury is also set to showcase his talent in his 2024 opener. Not to forget the greatest Grant Holloway who has held a magnificent streak in the 60m hurdles. Speculations are making rounds over the internet of whether he will maintain this streak this year as well.

However, one event which has captivated the attention of every track and field enthusiast is the 60m event. It carries the most contemplated and exciting rivalry between Noah Lyles and Fred Kerley. We all have been waiting for this face-off since the World Championships 2023. Ever since Fred Kerley bowed out of the competition and Noah Lyles nabbed the win in 100m, the track and field world is speculating about another rivalry between the two athletes. The time is finally here to witness the thrilling showdown.

Men’s 60m Final 

1st – Noah Lyles – 6.44 (WL) (MR) (PB)

2nd- Ackeem Blake- 6.45

3rd- Ronnie Baker- 6.54

Noah Lyles just declared, “We are coming after everything”. He just smashed his own numbers from the last year’s New Balance Indoor Grand Prix and defended his title like a pro. Giving a befitting reply to Fred Kerley’s rivalry, he left everyone behind with a world lead, meet record and a personal best of 6.44. He has once again proved himself and his worth. There is no doubt in the fact that he is absolutely the best in everything he does.

Men’s 60m Combined Heats

Noah Lyles once again showcasing his beauty is on the top of the race with a stellar score of 6.54. His archrival Fred Kerley who has never run a 60m before is on the second position with a score of 6.57. Noah Lyles’ brother is one the 8th position after clocking a time of 6.67.

Grant Holloway maintains his streak and has once again nabbed the win with the world lead of 7.35. Trey Cunningham on the other side with a lot of potential gained the second position with a score of 7.49. He was one of the speculated athletes to break Holloway’s streak this year. This was an incredible race and as usual it was a treat watching Holloway hurdle like the pro he is.

400m:

1st- Vernon Norwood- 45.76

2nd- Zak Nene- 46.15

3rd- Champion Allison- 46.23

4th- Trevor Stewart- 46.33

Vernon Norwood, 31-year-old justifies the fact that age is just a number. He nabbed the first position with an exceptional win of 45.76 leaving behind other competitors quite behind.

Men’s 60m hurdles 

1st place- Grant Holloway – 7.37

2nd place- Trey Cunningham- 7.44

3rd Place- Daniel Robberts- 7.51

Cordel Tinch- 7.60

Grant Holloway has powered through victory with a stupendous 7.37 world lead. We are just at the initial stage of the event and a world lead has already amassed a lot of attention. Holloway has done wonders and eyes are set on him for the finals.

1500m:

1st place- Hobbs Kessler – 3:33.66

2nd place- Jake Wightman -3:34.06

3rd place- Craig Engels- 3:37.04

Sam Prakel- 3:37.24

Vince Ciattei- 3:37.33

Just 20 years old Hobbs Kessler gave a terrific performance with the time of 3:33.66. The track and field world were absolutely stunned with his terrific performance. Jake Wightman on the other side after an injury filled season last year commenced his 2024 with a stunning race and secured the second position with a score of 3:34.06. It was a very tight competition between the two athletes and eyes were absolutely glued on this terrific showdown.

Women 60m Heats

1st place- Zoe Hobbs- 7.16

After the withdrawal of the Olympic star Aleia Hobbs, Zoe Hobbs has gracefully nabbed the win and has scored a very impressive 7.16. In this event, things didn’t turn out well for Tamara Clark. Her dreams shattered as she withdrew from the race and this loss feels like a personal one for all the fans. Another disappointment that occurred in this event is with the Jamaican star Briana Williams as she clocked a 9.09 and couldn’t qualify further.

300m:

3rd: Lynna Irby-Jackson- 36.05

4th: Helena Ponette

Young American star Gabby Thomas already declared, “This is my year”, after her remarkable win at the 300m with a world lead of 35.75. After facing health issues and injuries, she made her hometown proud with this stellar win.

Tia Jones who once suffered from an intense Achilles injury, just raised the bars in the women’s 60m hurdles by clocking an impressive world lead and her personal best of 7.72. She left all the other athletes far behind showcasing her supremacy in the event. She with this win created an upset for the Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan by taking the world lead and Amusan created a national record of 7.75.

It was a race worth watching with the intense competition between Junelle Bromfield, Kendall Ellis, and Raevyn Rogers on the inside line. Junelle despite being at the lead in the initial stage, unfortunately ended up at the fifth position.

The most anticipated meet, the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix 2024 has now come to an end. This meet showcased the confidence in almost all the athletes. From several world leads to some disappointments this meet was a roller coaster of emotions. Noah Lyles once again gave his audience what they wanted and achieved his lifetime personal best with a world lead and a world record trouncing his rival, Fred Kerley.

Grant Holloway on the other hand beautifully maintained his streak by powering through victory. There were multiple other athletes like Gabby Thomas, Hobbs Kessler, and various others who dropped the jaws of all the track and field enthusiasts.
