Is Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's sporadic schedule a smart strategy, or does it hinder her athletic legacy?

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s heroics at the track never cease to amaze fans, but her tendency to go inactive after big competitions has been equally baffling for them. Fans were worried that she would fall into the same pattern after her campaign in Paris. After all, they noticed she did not participate in the hurdling competition at the Diamond League. This led to many of them bashing and trolling her on social media. However, the truth is that McLaughlin-Levrone was ineligible to participate, and she hasn’t done so since 2018.

After much speculation, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone ran in a special invitational women’s 400m in September. Now, it has been confirmed that she will make her highly anticipated comeback in April 2025. The Olympic gold medalist is set to compete in the inaugural event of Michael Johnson’s high-stakes Grand Slam Track league. However, her role goes beyond just competing—she’s one of the league’s first members and has been heavily involved in promotional activities. So what is she up to currently?

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone posted numerous Instagram stories on November 20, showcasing her journey with her hair and her photoshoot with GST (Grand Slam Track). She signed with them on June 18, right before the Paris Olympics trials. But her new story was a mirror selfie of her getting her hair styled at the salon. She captioned the story, “Health is wealth. When I tell you, I won’t be going blonde anytime soon. No, ma’am.”

She further mentioned, “My hair can’t handle the bleach anymore it must go! Excited to go natural!”

Well, the last time the hurdler made drastic changes to her hair was in 2021. Back then, she had mentioned, “Blonde is back,” while also sharing a picture of her hair. Clearly, that isn’t going to happen anytime soon!

She takes care of her hair. But what is her hair routine? Well, to know this, we will have to go back to 2020, when the athlete recreated her 2019 Doha, hair and makeup routine.

Post doing her ponytail on the camera, she stated, “I use Eco Style Gel, a spritz bottle, a regular brush… We slicked it back, we put it in a ponytail. I have done this hairstyle since I was like six-years-old. This used to be my hairstyle every single day when I went to school. I like my ponytails to be just even with the back of my head. You know high ponytails make my hair look really short.”

But things don’t end here. She takes care of her skin too—all thanks to her sister, who is five years older than the athlete. After all, McLaughlin-Levrone would steal her sister’s beauty products as a kid.

What does Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone do for her flawless skin?

Owing to her job, she gets dirty often—sweat, dust, and sun exposure are things she is used to. However, as reported by ‘Well+Good’ in October, she has a nighttime skincare routine.

“I’m a pimple patch person. So I’m normally peeling all of them off in the morning before I start anything. I’m [also] someone who will go out with pimple patches on. The Neutrogena Hydro Boost cleanser is also really helpful—it’s super moisturizing and I have combination skin.”

“The first skincare product I tried was the grapefruit scrub. I stole it from my sister who’s five years older than me. I’ve always been interested in beauty and skincare, but I felt like I really had an elementary understanding of it. So it’s been cool partnering with Neutrogena and getting to understand the science behind it.”

She believes in sticking to the basics like sunscreen, retinol, anti-aging and hydrating products. But make no mistake; the athlete knows her worth is beyond her looks. In 2023, while talking about her partnership with Neutrogena, she emphasized how acne and skin problems don’t define someone. “Looks are fleeting,” she said.

Well, her performance on the track is as flawless as her skin. In 2025, she is expected to compete in the Grand Slam Track’s 400m flat race. Interestingly, she won’t participate in the 400m hurdles. Regardless, she is optimistic about this opportunity. “Michael’s vision is clear, and he’s exactly the leader this sport needs to break new ground. I am thrilled to be a part of this league and look forward to everything we have coming in the future. I firmly believe that this is the step forward that track needs to take it to another level, and I can’t wait to get to work with the team.”
