The Mesa Marathon is an annual race in Phoenix, Arizona where participants gather to complete the 26.2-mile run. Marathons, one of the longest events in Athletics, often drain every ounce of energy from the participants’ bodies, sometimes pushing them to the verge of collapse. In the 2023 edition of the race, which took place on February 4, a 26-year-old businessman from Rhode Island suffered a similarly horrific fate. After the tragic turn of events that ultimately claimed his life, people are offering their condolences from all around the world.
This young gentleman, a member of Forbes 30 Under 30, successfully completed the race when he collapsed near the paramedics. After a tweet about his demise, among many, went viral, people flooded the comments section with their tributes.

The Mesa Marathon started at 6:30 am and Pierre Lipton crossed the finish line in 3:10:05, his new personal record. Lipton finished the race with a speed of 7:15 per mile and showed no signs of discomfort while running. However, once at the finish line, he collapsed and was immediately rushed to the hospital. But unfortunately, even CPR couldn’t bring him back. Tributes have been pouring in from everywhere for Lipton.

I would recommend that young men abstain from rigorous exercise. Some brave doctor needs to call these sudden deaths for what it is…death by jab, and work on some lifestyle modifications for people to follow.

Lipton’s dad, Dr. Jordan Lipton later told the Boston Globe, “the working diagnosis is he might have had some sudden electrolyte imbalance that caused arrhythmia”. His girlfriend was also devastated and penned a heartfelt tribute to her late boyfriend on her Instagram.

She wrote, “On Saturday, I lost the love of my life. The person I thought I would spend forever with”. Her long and endearing post finally ended with, “I love you Pierre”, thus declaring her unbound love for him. Lipton’s death as speculated was due to arrhythmia, an irregularity in heartbeat.

Lipton is the founder of the Chicago-based Newsletter company, 1499 Media, and was inculcated in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2022. Having built a large business, at such a young age, his legacy will be remembered.
