Kenya has established itself as a nation that truly dominates the art and ability of running a marathon. A celebrated Kenyan marathon expert was making headlines for making a return to his favorite racetrack. However, the athlete got bit by the injury bug and has been forced out of competition.

Several fans looked forward to the return of Geoffrey Kamworor to the New York City Marathon and watching him win again. But, the 6x world champion is now battling with injury once again and will have to sit out once again. A tweet broke the news of his injury and posted an update made by Kamworor for his fans.?

Marathon star gets injured once again and misses major race

Geoffrey Kamworor has garnered several injuries. The star marathon runner has always shown peak consistency but has been unable to find his way out of constant injuries. Kamworor made a grand comeback in 2023 and was slowly getting back to full capacity. But, he now finds himself tied down with another injury. While he was on his way to claim a third win in New York, fate had other plans for the 30-year-old. A tweet by RunBlogDun on X shared a screenshot of the Kenyan?s Facebook update for his fans.

The 6x World Champion wrote,??After good results in the World Cross Country Championships and the @londonmarathon earlier this year, I was building towards a great @nycmarathon. Unfortunately, an injury came my way and didn’t leave me any other option than to take some rest and focus towards 2024.? The last sentence of Kamworor indicated that he wants to take some time off and focus on recovery for the upcoming Paris Olympics.?

The previous Olympics absence due to an accident

Geoffrey Kamworor?s impressive track record of 13 world marathon medals showcases his investment in the sport. The 30-year-old?s Rio attempt in 2016 didn?t bring him any success, following which, he prepared for the Tokyo Olympics. In fact, five of his six gold medals have come from his efforts between 2016 and 2020. Unfortunately, however, before he could make it to the Olympics, Kamworor met with a brutal road accident.?

The accident occurred on 27 June 2020 and fractured his tibia, which called for surgery. Sadly, he failed to qualify for a marathon spot on the Kenyan team after recovery and only qualified for the 10,000m category. This year, he has bagged his Olympic qualification for Paris by clocking 2:04:23 at the London Marathon. While the Kenyan recovers from his injury, fans will pray for this injury to be his last.?
