Can Gout Gout, the 'next Bolt,' surpass his mentor Noah Lyles in the coming years?

Noah Lyles had the kind of season that keeps you in the news cycle long after the race is done. And now he is back headlining with a new training partner! Noah started 2024 in New York, clocking 19.77 in 200m. Then, he went on to do a casual 9.81 at the London Diamond League. This meet set the tone for the 2024 Paris Olympics. At the Olympics, he went on to wear the 100m crown, clocking 9.784.

In the pursuit of keeping the buzz alive and shutting down the barrage of online hate, Lyles went on to race against content creator IShowSpeed. Even with IShowSpeed claiming he had the “raw speed,” Lyles casually jumped to the finish and won. But the video clip made the world think that the race was rather close. Despite the roars from the fandom and the limitless trolls, Lyles is moving forward with his new training partner! The new training partner from Australia is no ordinary sprinter. He has already been called the ‘next Usain Bolt.’

Despite ‘Speed’ downfalls, ‘the next Bolt’ to train with Noah Lyles!

Amidst all the noise, a 16-year-old sprinter from Australia, Gout Gout, has walked into Noah Lyles’ life. So why call him the next Bolt? Well, Gout Gout recently went on to break one of Bolt’s records! He recently ran 200m, clocking 20.60, while Bolt’s record stood at 20.61! He broke a record that had stood strong since 2002 with complete ease. And guess what?

By breaking the record, Gout Gout had the fastest Australian time in 31 years! So what now? Well, as Gout’s manager, James Templeton, puts it, Gout is in for “a wonderful educational experience.” And he will be receiving it alongside Noah Lyles. James, talking about the same, called Noah “great.” And even went on to add, “I’m sure he’ll be happy to take the younger guy under his wing a little bit.” It is truly a big event for Gout! So what exactly is going to happen?

Well, around “16 or 18 top sprinters” will be going to Florida soon. And Gout is one of them. But will a 16-year-old be able to keep up with the Lyles training? Templeton is far from delusional, in fact, he went on to admit, “It’s all going to be ahead of him (Gout).” The upcoming weeks are going to be a collaborative learning experience for both Lyles and Gout. But who exactly is this boy who broke Bolt’s record?

To answer this, let’s go back in time to 2007. Gout Gout was born in Ipswich, Queensland, to South Sudanese parents. By the time Gout was in school, he was already becoming the center of attention. During his time at the Ipswich Grammar School, at just 14, he went on to clock 10.57 in the 100m. And since then, he has only been getting faster. By the time 2023 arrived, Gout was already sprinting ahead.

Gout Gout went on to set under-18 records that year, clocking 20.87 seconds in the 200m at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships. And in 2024? Well, he, of course, broke Bolt’s record. But he also did something else! Gout went on to clock his personal best of 10.29 seconds, that had Adidas knocking on his door. All that, he is only just 16! The training with Noah Lyles might just be the final push that Gout Gout needs to maybe break the 9.58 Bolt record?
