Home/Olympics

A native of Massachusetts has already made a significant stride in the realm of gymnastics, and now he is grinding his way to adding an Olympic medal to his accomplishments. The gymnast is the first American man, after 13 years, to win a world gymnastics championship in the all-around category. Despite his daunting performance at the bars, he says “it is not easy” for him to go through an intense routine.

Last year, the 19-year-old clinched a bronze medal in an all-round competition, marking a milestone for being the first man since 2010. Stoughton’s own Fred Richard has mostly chosen social media to share his feelings with his fans, whether it’s his experience of getting trained under 6x World Champion Noah Lyles or the way he is preparing himself for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.

Recently, Richard took to Instagram to showcase his hard work and dedication to the events. An energy drink company partnered with him to boost his performance level. The video was captioned, “Next level begins👌🏾@celsiusofficial”

In the video, Richard could be seen all energized and showing off the way he practices. For refreshment, he sips into the energy drink. Despite his global travel and success, he is deeply rooted in his native place. In an interview with NBC10 Boston, he said, “I’m thankful for everybody in the Stoughton community. I couldn’t have gotten here without them.”

With that, Richard also mentioned, “I’ve realized a lot of black kids are looking up to me nowadays and I think it’s amazing to see that I’m that person leading the chase.” He was 2 years old when he got into gymnastics. He said, “I had a lot of energy, and I wasn’t really listening at all. I was that kid running all over the place. So, they asked me to come back when I was a little older and more mature.” Currently, the sophomore enjoys his full scholarship for gymnastics at the University of Michigan.

Noah Lyles prepared the three-time NCAA Champion

Previously, Richard used social media to document his training sessions under the guidance of Noah Lyles. As Richard gears up for the Olympics, he has refined many new techniques in his arsenal. Among them, he shared a video where Lyles can be seen prescribing various exercises, including 20-meter hill sprints, hill jumps, one-leg hill jumps, speed bounces, and reaction games.

The whole thing took place via a FaceTime training session. The session concluded with a cold water bath to prevent the muscles from getting sore and to help them recover. Fans are now eagerly waiting to see the young athletes’ performances in the future.
