The sensational sprinter won the 200-meters event in an exciting matchup with Michael Norman. Two of the most versatile sprinters in track and field, they are a treat to watch. However, with Fred setting outstanding times, the chances of him dominating the 2022 Athletics World Championships in Oregon are higher.
Is Fred Kerley the fastest man in the world?
A man on a mission, Kerley is looking to achieve a unique feat. He wants to become the fastest in 100m, 200m, and 400-meters competitions. Currently, he is one of the three people to record sub10s in 100, sub20 in 200, and sub44 in 400-meters competitions. While this itself is a stunning record, Kerley continues to improve.
“It’s absolutely my desire to be the fastest man alive. I want to be the fastest in the one [100m], the two [200m], and the four [400m],” said Kerley.
Apart from Kerley, the other two athletes are Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa and Michael Norman, the world record holder for the indoor 400m. However, Kerley has been on a whole other level.
Although Bolt’s times in the 100 and 200-meters remain untouched, Kerley is incredibly fast and more than capable of rewriting history books. If we compare the times that he sets consistently in all three events, he stands the closest to breaking Bolt’s records.
History in the making
Bolt’s times in the 100m and 200m are untouchable. However, he was not a versatile sprinter like Fred. Bolt’s personal best is 45.28 in the 400-meters while Fred has better times in that event. When it comes to the 100-meters, Kerley has the best time of 9.84 that was set at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This is the fastest time among the trio.

Meanwhile, the 200-meters is another interesting event to focus on. Norman set the fastest 200-meters time by clocking 19.70; in the meantime, Kerley had set 19.76. An important takeaway must be the fact that Norman had a +0.7 headwind while Kerley had a +2.0 headwind.
The last event is 400-meters where Wayde van Niekerk is the fastest with a time of 43.03. Kerley has a time of 43.64. Despite that, he has the potential to get better. In its truest sense, Kerley is on the verge of scripting history this season.
