The track and field realm is one of the most decorated communities in the sports world and inculcates top-notch athletes. This also has some of the best events among which 100m is one. Over the years, there have been stellar performances in the 100m from various athletes belonging to various countries. The athletes have showcased their talent by going sub-11 in 100m which is not an easy task to do. 

Multiple paragon women athletes are on their path to achieving excellence by attaining sub11 in the 100m. Here is a rundown of the top five countries that have the most sub-11-second performances in the women’s 100m.

Every part of the world participates in the 100m race and among them, five are such countries that have the highest count of sub-11 second performances in the women’s 100m. A US track and field insider has taken to their X account to share these top five countries and the numbers will leave you stunned. 

The first country on the roster is the United States. This country has some of the most stellar athletes that have proved their prowess with every performance. This country has 454 sub-11-second performances in the women’s 100m. In the second position stands Jamaica which is the archrival of the US team when it comes to track and field events. This country has 367 sub-11-second performances in the 100m by its female athletes. 

In the third position comes Cote d’Ivoire with 68 sub-11 performances and the athletes who are behind these numbers are Murielle Ahoure-Demps and Marie Josee Ta Lou-Smith both with 19 and 49 sub-11 performances respectively. Then in the fourth place stands the German Democratic Republic with 59 sub-11 performances and in the fifth comes Great Britain with 41 performances.

The athletes behind adding numbers to the sub-11 category for GBR are Dina Asher-Smith with 28 performances, Daryll Neita with 12 performances, and Imani Lansiquot with 1 sub-11 performance. The US in the top position has some of the legendary athletes behind the numbers like Florence Griffith-Joyner, Sha’Carri Richardson, and many more. 

The sub-11 records of the US female athletes 

The former track and field legend Florence Griffith Joyner also known as Flo-Jo created a massive record in the sub-11 category 35 years ago in 1988. She set the women’s 100m world record in the quarter-finals of the US Olympic trials of 1988. Flo-Jo clocked a time of 10.49 which lowered the then-existing record by 0.27 seconds. Another American athlete on this path is the current sensation Sha’Carri Richardson.

She for the first time attained sub-11 at the NCAA Division 1 Championships, where she clocked 10.75 seconds in 100m. In 2021, she recorded a new personal best of 10.72 seconds. She qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics by winning the 100m race in 10.86 seconds. In the 2023 World Championships, Budapest she went near Flo-Jo’s record by clinching gold in 10.65 seconds. She is one of the biggest 100m phenom in the track and field community. However, Flo-Jo’s record remains untouched, and the track and field enthusiasts have their eyes glued on the upcoming events to witness if this year, the 100m sub-11 record gets broken.
