Owing to the off-season in track and field, it was just another regular day for Fred Kerley in Miami. He lived up to his statements prior to the Olympic Games, owing to his bronze medal, and his fans couldn’t be happier and are looking forward to the next season. However, his vacation turned ugly when he found himself at an active crime scene and was tased and arrested by the Miami Beach police.
Indeed, the arrest of an Olympic bronze medalist was a disaster for the onlookers, prompting many prominent individuals worldwide to question the police’s actions. However, later on, Kerley got released following court orders, and the moment he got a chance, he addressed the whole fiasco with his way of talking to his fans through social media.

Kerley is a tough man, and it’s not easy work for anybody to take his confidence down. However, his fans were apprehensive about the outcome in Miami for the athlete, given the potential for escalation between Kerley and the Miami Beach police officers. Following his release, the Olympian promptly shared two captivating pictures on his Instagram.
There were no statements from Fred Kerley, but the first story had a bear emoji, followed by a normal selfie of the athlete. He looks completely unfazed by all the events that happened to him in the past hours, and in classic Kerley fashion, he sent out this message to his fans. Indeed, the news of his arrest by the Miami Beach police worried many, especially after the shared footage revealed crucial details of his interactions with the officers.
So what actually happened? A few hours after Kerley’s arrest, the bodycam footage of an active officer revealed how the Olympian ran into some officers. The American sprinter was just heading towards his parked car, which he didn’t know was in the area of an active crime scene. The footage further revealed that an officer gestured towards Kerley to establish a safe distance. However, as soon as Kerley attempted to move the officer’s hand, things took a turn for the worse.

Immediately, all the officers at the crime scene wrestled with the athlete and tried to subdue him with heavy force. The footage also showed how one officer hit Kerley multiple times in the ribcage. Eventually, the Miami Beach police officers tased him and arrested him on the spot. There was an ample amount of people who were watching the whole situation, including his girlfriend, Cleo Rahman. And what happened to her?

Following Kerley’s arrest, DJ Sky High Baby, a.k.a. Cleo Rahman, was also arrested by the Miami Beach police. But why? Evidently, she simply yelled at the police, “Stop, stop,” not to arrest her boyfriend. Her arrest resulted from a misdemeanor and her nonviolent resistance to the police. The whole news surrounding the incident went viral on the internet, and the moment his attorneys got the call, they weren’t so happy with the way the officers acted on the scene.
His attorneys had none of it
“A complete overuse of any reasonable force by officers,” said Fred Kerley’s attorney, Yale Sanford. Indeed, she was not happy with the way things were handled by the Miami Beach police officers. And during the court hearing, Judge Mindy Glazer shared her thoughts regarding the arrest, stating, “Sergeant, this could have been handled a different way. And I don’t know if the officers in Miami Beach are busy handling a lot of complicated crime scenes there, but I have a gentleman who’s never been arrested, there’s no prior arrests, who his attorney’s saying has competed in the Olympics, who is obviously a professional athlete and it’s unfortunate that he got to this position.” However, there’s a twist to all of it. And what’s that?

Apparently, Glazer did not review the bodycam footage during the court hearing, and when she did, Kerley was charged with domestic batt*ry and robbery in an unrelated Miami-Dade County case. Another of his attorneys expressed a critical view of the decision, characterizing it as “a falsified accusation.” Indeed, according to the lawyer, the whole situation should’ve never escalated.
Yes, they are pointing out the officers involved, as rather than brutally taking down the athlete, they could’ve just talked it out and made him understand that he was at an active crime scene. Keeping everything aside, the Olympian has finally been released, and his fans are glad that nothing happened to him that could’ve potentially ruined his athletic career.
