“Mentally I was in a dark place,” said Tara Davis-Woodhall at a New York media roundtable in early 2024. The Olympic champion was referring to the times she was at the University of Texas, trying to fit into the track world. Back in 2020, after making the transition from Georgia to Texas, Davis-Woodhall stated that she struggled to connect with the city of Austin. Moreover, settling into her own team also did not go very well. 

In November of the same year, Davis-Woodhall mentioned that she locked herself up in her room for one full week. She had significant difficulty dragging herself out of the bed. Thankfully, the 25-year-old was able to shrug off the lethargy and negativity and decided to power through. Now, while the 2024 Olympic gold medalist’s talent soon began to blossom, things were still quite tough for Davis-Woodhall. In a shocking revelation from Hunter Woodhall, it was learned that Tara struggled to get herself registered in the 2020 Diamond League. 

With no major international accolades and medals, the DL authorities refused to accept Tara’s application. In fact, Hunter further mentioned that they got turned down even after they agreed to pay their own expenses. Thus, it is quite evident that the road to Olympic glory was not laden with rose petals. Thankfully, Tara Davis-Woodhall had her husband, Hunter Woodhall to lean on. Ever since their relationship, the chemistry of Hunter and Tara Davis-Woodhall has been adorable. Speaking on the matter, the Olympic gold medalist opened up to SELF in an exclusive interview. 

Davis-Woodhall stated that she depended significantly on Hunter Woodhall during the major part of her life. “Oh yeah, he’s my venting person-whatever I gotta say, he gets to hear it. He’s like my in-home therapist when I can’t talk to my actual therapist. He just makes everything better. Even going to these events, I could not imagine going to them alone,” said Davis-Woodhall. She further stated that their journey feels like an entirely new world for her. 

The Olympic champion also stated, “Going from when we were little babies, doing long-distance and trying to make it work, to then doing all these cool things and living so many of our talked-about dreams.” As per her account, the lovebirds have an unsaid pact. Whenever any one of them is low, the other person will always be there to cheer up the mood. And continuing their merry journey, the Woodhall couple has established themselves as one of the most adorable ones in the sporting realm. Albeit a majority of their relationship is long distance.
