Competitive sports keep getting better and better every year. The world of track and field, especially, is seeing a massive shift in its benchmarks for peak performances. In fact, even world champions are not having it easy at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Track and field superstar Trevor Bassitt recently revealed that hurdlers this year are pushing hard. A short video interview of Bassitt is going viral on the internet. The world champion emphasized the evolution of competition and said that even last year?s best fell short this year.

Track and field see a steep increase in speed and skill

Trevor Bassitt is a 25-year-old track and field athlete specializing in 400-meter hurdles. The 25-year-old ace from Ashland Eagles recently qualified for the semi-finals. The American hurdler did not have much problems qualifying for the next round. However, he acknowledged that the stakes are much higher this year.??Last year, the fastest time going in round two was 48.74, I just went 48.73 and still came 3rd in my heat,??said Bassitt.??It?s just been a lot faster this year,??he added further. Bassitt is an ace hurdler who has proven his mettle to the track and field world. However, he will not rest till he grabs the gold medal in his hands. Considering the fact that two more heats remain, the players are really pushing themselves to the brim this year.?

The track and field genius said he could have also pushed himself harder but chose not to.??I could?ve pushed harder to get Rasmus for that second Q. But, I said, it?s the first round. Top 4 auto, I?ll just take the third Q,??said Bassitt. He said that he preferred conserving his strength for the upcoming rounds.??You wanna get the auto Q (qualified), but you don?t wanna overexert yourself,??remarked Bassitt. His actions clearly show that he has come to Budapest with a plan.

Trevor Bassitt won the gold medal in the 4 x 400m relay race. However, he could only manage the bronze in the 400m hurdles. The higher speeds mean that the spectators are enjoying the best track and field races of their lifetimes. However, the world is also missing the presence of their champion, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, from the world championships.

The temporary hiatus of Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is the reigning world and Olympic champion in the 400-meter hurdles. She is also the current world record holder for the fastest 400m hurdles run. The world was excitedly waiting for her to smash her record once again. However, Levrone dropped out of the competition due to a minor knee issue.?

The track and field champion said she consulted her coaches and doctors and ultimately decided to sit out. The star hurdler also missed out on her long-awaited duel against Dutch hurdler Femke Bol at Brussels. Levrone will now make her return to the track and field world at the grandest stage of sports in Paris.?
