While millions reduce physical activities in old age, Barbara Humbert stands out from the crowd. Used to run for 30 miles per week, Humbert has participated in more than 50 marathons. The 83-year-old runner now dreams of participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics. In a very special conversation, she disclosed the reason why she wished to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Rediff reported this conversation where the athletics champion also shared intriguing insights about her journey. Racing for more than 30 years, Humbert created a world record in 2022 by running 78 miles in twenty-four hours. Describing how she will continue running till her body allows, Humbert inspired millions with her ambitious dream of contesting in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Barbara Humbert desires to achieve a massive milestone

In a recent conversation, Humbert expressed, “It’s extraordinary to have the Olympics in Paris. It would be a gift for my 60th marathon”, she expressed. Living in Eaubonne, which is an hour’s distance from Paris, brings Humbert closer to her dream.

Continuing, she added, “For me it would be a crowning achievement.” Further, she also spoke about how her husband Jacques was moving heaven and earth so that she gets her bib for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The race bibs would be selected randomly and only a maximum of 20,024 bibs would only be shortlisted for the race. Speaking about the bib, Humbert related how she still hadn’t yet received any confirmation from the officials about her participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Afterward, she also shared interesting insights about the 24-hour race where she had run for 78 miles. Talking about how she couldn’t sleep, Humbert shared how she felt exhausted when the race ended. This doesn’t mean that Humbert will stop running. “As long as my joints don’t cry out in pain, I will keep running”, she confidently declared. Humbert is not the only runner who dreams of contesting in the Paris 2024 Olympics. An Olympic champion who received a painful setback at the 2020 London Marathon is gearing up for a strong comeback in the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Kenyan runner also revealed his wish to engrave his legacy in the Olympics.

In January 2022, Eluid Kipchoge disclosed his dream to win 3 gold medals in the Olympics marathon race. Kipchoge has already won 2 gold medals in the Olympics. After breaking the world record at the Berlin Marathon 2022, Kipchoge is now training for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The athletics champion recently confirmed his participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Describing what drives him to participate in the Olympics, Kipchoge said: “My main motivation is to inspire the whole world and the next one is the love of the sport.” Further, he hoped to play a vital role in creating the next generation of runners. Currently an ambassador of the Paris 2024 Olympics, the 38-year-old runner evidently aspires to make running more popular and help to mold the next generation’s runners.
