Cuts and bruises may not be new for Usain Bolt, the multiple world record holder in the track and field. But this time, the 37-year-old Jamaican legend had to face the bitter side of the competitive game, much away from a sprinting contest, in a soccer match at Stamford Bridge. During the 2024 Soccer Aid match, Usain Bolt, leading the World XI FC, went into a heavy battle in the second half against the England team. That eventually resulted in his injury. Primarily, nothing was clear when Usain was carried off from the ground on a stretcher. However, later, he took to the IG to inform his fans about his health status.
In his shared snap on IG, Usain appeared with two crutches and a boot plaster on his right leg. Showing his trademark cross finger sign, the Olympian wrote in the caption, “Raptured Achilles but done know we a warrior [emoji].” While being a regular in football games or Soccer Aid matches, this is one of the rare occasions that Usain Bolt had to leave the game on a stretcher. Such a heart-wrenching view had worried his fans. But after the update on IG, they lined up with their wishes for the speedster. In one such share, a fan wrote in the post’s comment box: “Mend quickly dear Usain [emoji]”. Undoubtedly, the athletic world will want a speedy recovery of the 8-time Olympic champion. However, Usain, himself could take pride in himself because of all his effort in the game.

In the match that happened in the historic Stamford Bridge, Usain Bolt had been playing at the center-back position. Maintaining responsibility, he went to inflict a physical challenge on Danny Dyer that left Usain Bolt on the ground. Soon, he had to leave the match on a stretcher. Meanwhile, Usain Bolt’s absence invited a huge blow to his team as World XI FC had to digest a 6- defeat to the England team. That defeat also broke the winning streak Bolt’s team had been enjoying for the last five years. Still, the prime objective to set up the match was fulfilled entirely.
Working closely with UNICEF, Soccer Aid has played a big role in raising notable sums through such charity matches. The co-founder of the project, Robbie Williams was at the forefront of maintaining the setup successfully and fulfilling the meaning of the objective for which the match had been scheduled. The post-match update on raising more than $16 million from the match proved the fulfillment of the objectives. However, track and field fans continued in a different mood because of Usain Bolt’s injury. In the comment box of his IG post, the proof has remained visible.
