Creating history once more with the 23rd Grand Slam victory at the French Open 2023 hosted at Roland Garros’ Court Philippe Chatrier in Paris, France. Djokovic defeated Norwegian Casper Ruud in the final, winning 7-6, 6-3, and 7-5 to capture his third French Open title. Adding this one to the French Open victories he won in 2016 and 2021, he shares the 23rd Grand Slam title with Serena Williams.

One cannot ignore the competition between the trio, including Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, as the wave to the top is debated. With 23, Djokovic has surpassed Federer’s 20 and Nadal’s 22 Grand Slam trophies to take the lead in men’s tennis. Djokovic also leads the Grand Slam titles, ATP Master’s 1000 competitions, the Nitto ATP Finals, and Olympic singles gold medals. While their rivalry as the greatest tennis players is often argued, Nadal emerged among the first to congratulate Federer on his Grand Slam victory.

Despite their well-known image as the most prolific rivalry in tennis history, the King of Clay wished the Serbinator a legendary win at the French Open in Paris. He took it to Twitter and wrote, “23 is a number that just a few years ago was impossible to think about, and you made it!”, further adding, “Enjoy it with your family and team!.” The internet soon jumped into the comment section with mixed reactions to Nadal’s words of affirmation as the Serbinator moved ahead of Nadal to take the outright lead.

The question “Is the calendar slam in your mind at all” was posed to Djokovic by French media following his victory over Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open semifinals. He replied, “Calendar Slam is far.” And even if it may still be early, Djokovic’s answer on Friday showed that he is aware of his potential.

No one has accomplished the calendar-year Grand Slam since Rod Laver in 1969, which would include winning all four major titles in a single season. Djokovic is currently halfway there and will continue his Wimbledon, which starts on the All-England Club’s grass on July 3.
