A video clip that was uploaded nine months ago on YouTube has recently resurfaced and is making rounds on social media. The video, titled ?Michael Phelps vs. Average Person,? shows the legendary Phelps going against an average Joe. In light of the recent National Championships, the world would be amiss without a call back to the most decorated Olympian of all time.??

This particular clipping, however, generated a lot of different responses from the YouTube community, with people commenting about both Phelps? natural talent, as well as the John Doe who tried to put up a competition with him.

That?s Not an Average Joe; That?s Average Andy!

The resurfaced video clip is actually a section of a video originally uploaded by the YouTube channel of The Ellen Show. The show featured a segment called ?Average Andy’. Here, the executive producer of the show, Andy Lassner, competed with and learned about different professions in the world from the individuals who were at the top of it. This video was the first installment of the Average Andy series, where Andy was supposed to learn how to swim from the mighty Olympian.

The video featured Andy in regular clothing instead of swimwear, trying his best to outswim the 23-time Olympic Gold Medallist. While the intent of the video was purely humorous, viewers commented that while beating Phelps was an impossible task, Andy was still putting up a good fight. The YouTube comments praised Andy by saying how an actual average person would have fared far worse than Andy, even with the right swimming gear.?

While viewers praised Andy for his visibly above-average performance, despite all the antics he pulled, the YouTube community didn?t miss the undeniable caliber of Michael Phelps. Although it was clear that Phelps was moving way faster than Andy, people were also astonished by seeing how less of an effort the now-retired veteran swimmer was making.

Several people gave credit to the ace swimmer?s genetics and how perfectly built his body was for swimming. One user emphasized this by commenting, ?Michael?s body was made to swim. Long upper body and longer arms.??Another, talking about the effortlessness displayed by Phelps says, “Michael’s effort level there is lower than most people have walking from the couch to the fridge.”

Some had a more humorous take, saying, “That Phelps guy could be an Olympic level athlete if he had the right training”. Others had praise for Andy, ?Give this guy a medal already, jeez.??It?s not very hard to imagine an Average Joe or even an Average Andy struggling to keep up with Michael Phelps when even the best swimmers in the world failed to win against him more often than not.
