It’s another new year and we all know what that means. For most of us, New Year’s Eve is the day to make promises to ourselves that we’ll end up breaking almost immediately! However, for athletes, being focused on training and staying in shape is something that can be the determining factor between success and failure. But, for swimming stars, burning calories shouldn’t come as much of a challenge, or is it?
Carson Foster, the Texas Longhorns athlete, has been working hard as he eyes a glory moment in the 2024 Paris Olympics Archives. The Junior World Championships medalist has to follow a strict diet for his professional career and his New Year’s resolution was made on similar lines. However, things are looking tougher than previously thought and Foster is in half mind to wiggle out some guilty pleasures.

In a recent interview, Foster discussed his new year’s goals. Diet plays a crucial role in the journey of a sportsperson. However, continuously eating bland food isn’t an easy task and Foster thinks athletes should be entitled to some delectable dishes every once in a while. “I’ve tried to do no added sugar a couple of times but it’s just so hard and especially as athletes, you’re burning so many calories“, mentioned Foster in the interview.
He also said that their bodies being pushed to the edge makes it important to have enough intake that can balance the workout routines. “…you kinda eat whatever you can“, gave away USA’s swimming darling.
For Foster and his fiance, ice cream is an item that is always available in the household. “That’s my favorite kind of cheat item,” acknowledged Carson. However, he also mentioned that the couple doesn’t give in to the urge and only gets it, “once every two weeks“. Interestingly, Carson is not alone on the list.

More athletes struggle to subdue the urge to eat as they please
Like Carson, British runner Chris Thompson also finds it difficult to follow a stringent diet. Staying away from crisps, the iconic British finger food, gets on his nerves and he struggles hard to keep looking the other way. Thompson said the bags getting bigger didn’t help and his plans to stay away from his favorite junk food have only lasted a brief period.

As the world braces itself for a high-octane showdown in Paris later this year, athletes are also determined to give fans what they want. Now, it remains to be seen if Carson Foster and the others continue their difficult task of following a proper diet or if they give in to the temptations.
