The former English swimmer, who once represented Great Britain with pride, is now back floating like a sailfish. Talking about achievement, the swimmer has a lot in his kitty. The swimming sensation now turned coach, swam through all the grand aquatic stages. For a quick note, he has been appointed to a special advisory position by World Aquatics, which is a remarking expertise in his career.

The? 30-year-old aquanaut has resided in Marseille since 2006 and enjoyed a remarkable career as a backstroke specialist. James Gibson made history by becoming the first British swimmer in 28 years who secure a World Championship gold medal. Well, thirteen years after retiring the world-class swimmer has been spotted elegantly gliding through the water once again.

Revisiting the pool once again

James Gibson has now taken the role of a coach in France at the CN Marseille French Swimming High-Performance Centre. Despite these accolades, he expressed disappointment at being forced to retire prior to the 2012 London Olympics. Recently in a video posted on the official page of Pubity, Gibson could be seen gliding through the water. The video is captioned with “Dude is gliding” which is totally true with the A-1 swimmer. Even after 13 years of his retirement, the swimmer is swifter than butter on bread.

In recognition of his excellence, he was awarded an MBE in 2004 during the New Year honors list following his triumph in Barcelona. Today, James Gibson stands at the helm of the Energy Standard Swim Club. There he guided the team to International Swimming League (ISL) Championship victories in 2019 and 2021, along with a runner-up finish in 2020. The ace swimmer was forced to say goodbye to the swimming world in 2010 ten after a serious back injury.

Among all of Gibson’s achievements, there are a few major ones, the Olympics, FINA World Championships, European Championships, and Commonwealth Games. He accomplished this title in the 50-meter breaststroke at the World Championships. To this day, Liam Tancock remains the sole male swimmer to replicate this remarkable feat.

Gibson’s new chapter beyond the pool

Gibson’s new chapter as a coach helped him to work closely with some of Europe’s sprint coaches. National Performance Director Michael Scott commended Gibson’s long and distinguished career. This event highlights his super smooth dedication to the sport. He extended his gratitude to Gibson for his exceptional contributions to British Swimming. On that note, Scott even wished him the best of luck in his forthcoming coaching journey on the poolside.

As an ambassador, he extends his reach to World Aquatics Events to actively promote the sport. Furthermore, Gibson was assigned the vital task of implementing a structured World Aquatics Coaches Certification Program. He stands as one of the world’s foremost swim coaches, excelling in the pool of sprint swimming. This position points out his collaboration with national federations, where he contributed to equipping their coaches with the tools necessary to steer their athletes. His journey signifies the commitment to elevate the sport’s global height and nurture the next generation of swimming champions.
