The World Fukuoka Aquatics Championships started on the 14th of July and was conducted in Japan.  This 20th edition of the World Aquatics Championships is a 17-day event that will be closing on 30th July. Countries across the globe have participated with elite swimming champions at their national levels. One swimmer the world is looking at right now is Katie Ledecky

American competitive swimmer Katie Ledecky gracefully performed her 400m freestyle in the championships in the Women’s Category. However, fans were on their seat’s edge with the possibility that she could break the record of swimming legend Michael Phelps. 

Will Katie Ledecky break Michael Phelps’s record?

Michael Phelps is the most decorated athlete of all time and most of his records are unimpaired. He also has a record of 15 individual world titles, one that is not broken to this day. However, swimming sensation Ledecky has 14 world titles, and just needs one more to break the record. 

The NBS Olympics and Paralympics Twitter handle recently posted a picture of Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky. The post hinted at Ledecky’s chances to break Phelps’s record by saying, “Katie Ledecky could break a Michael Phelps record at #AQUAFukuoka23.” However, Ledecky won a silver medal for the USA in 400 meters Freestyle. But the chances are still there as Ledecky will be participating in some more upcoming tournaments.

Chances are still active to win gold for Ledecky

There are some more exciting events coming up this year that hold up the chances for Ledecky to win a gold and give a record-breaking performance. According to USA Swimming, The TYR Pro Championships is scheduled from the 26th to the 29th of July and will be conducted in California. And Katie Ledecky might also participate in Toyota U.S Open TBD which is scheduled from 29th November to 2nd December. However, Ledecky has not announced her participation in any of them yet.

The American competitive swimmer has 7 Olympic gold medals with 19 different World Championship gold medals. In 2023 January, she also made a record of 15:20.48 for the fastest swim in history. Katie did a great swimming performance but she could not secure a gold medal. However, her fans have not left hope for her chances to make the record-breaking performance.
