Time and time again, Katie Ledecky has been proving her metal. She is the benchmark for most swimmers to reach. Heading to the World Championships swimming competitions, she has the four best national times and leads the pace. However, she is not in the top position this time. Curzan is just 17 and one of the best swimmers to come out of the revolving conveyor belt of incredible swimmers. The more impressive feat is that she did it across three different strokes. This year’s Swimming World Championships might welcome the newest kid on the block.
Katie Ledecky gets a new rival
Even in the early days of the pandemic, Curzan broke personal best records and national age-group records. During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she took part in the 4×100 m medley relay and won a silver medal for Team USA. Winning her first medal at the Olympics, she followed it with the two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals at the short course World Swimming Championships. Thus, in the current national times, she is leading the way to have a sensational World Championships.
In the 50-meter freestyle, Curzan set a time of 24.43. Abbey Weitzeil finished second with a time of 24.73. Similarly, the 100-meters freestyle event saw setting a time of 53.68. Yet again, Weitzeil finished behind her. Next up is the backstroke. She set 58.73 in her 100-meter backstroke while setting a time of 2:07.31 in the 200-meter backstroke. Finishing with great times in both the backstroke and freestyle events is impressive. Not only that, she set the best time in one more stroke.
Just wanted to remind everyone that Claire Curzan is really good at swimming.

Even the butterfly!
In the 100-meter butterfly, Curzan set a time of 56.89 and leads the way. Apart from her breaststroke, she has set five different best times in various competitions. It’s just an incredible achievement. If she improves her breaststroke, her potential to dominate the swimming competitions will be one to watch out for.
Reaching Ledecky’s levels is not a straightforward task. The 2012 London Olympics saw the 15-year-old win her first gold medal. The trials will start from April 26-30 in Greensboro, N.C. Make way for the new swimmers in town! Do you think Curzan will be the breakout star in the 19th Swimming World Championships?
