There are pretty neat examples of people marrying the love of their life. For sports fans, the excitement increases manifold when even one of them is an athlete. But what if their favorite athlete marries another athlete? Caeleb Dressel did just that last year.

During the events of the Tokyo Olympics, Meghan Haila was constantly providing virtual support to the seven-time Olympic medalist. Therefore, when Dressel won his first individual gold in the 100m freestyle event at the meet, she could not contain her joy.

Haila burst into tears and then threw herself into the arms of Dressel’s family members, and for obvious reasons. Her husband had smashed the previous world record in the 100m freestyle event clocking 47.02 seconds.

How did Caeleb Dressel and Meghan Haila meet?

A few people knew about how the couple met. Most people were not even aware that the young swimmer was in a relationship, let alone be married. But the Tokyo Olympics changes that. And after the meeting, people wanted to know more about the life of Caeleb Dressel’s wife.

For those not aware, Caeleb Dressel met Haila at the same arena with which the star is associated the most, that is, the swimming pool. The couple first met while they were both in high school.

Although Dressel went to Clay High School in Green Cove Springs, Florida, he trained with the Bolles School Sharks in Jacksonville. Moreover, Haila too took her swimming training at this school. Therefore, the two met during swimming sessions.

The couple swam for the same club and even were swimming together during college. However, this is where Haila’s competitive swimming career would end.

The couple’s engagement and subsequent marriage

She went on to swim with Caeleb Dressel’s older sister Kaitlyn for a single season at Florida State. However, she quickly moved on to focus on her dream of becoming a family therapist.

Speaking about their training regime, Dressel said, “Meghan and I swam at Bolles together, in the late-night group because we didn’t go to school there.”

Moreover, he added, “She mainly did breaststroke but she stopped competing her sophomore year [at Florida State University in Tallahassee], to pursue her dream of becoming a child-family counselor.”

However, the couple kept the spark alive, even though their career goals had changed by the time they reached college. And finally, Dressel proposed to his high school sweetheart in November 2019.

The couple tied the knot last year amidst friends and family during the most romantic time of the year, on the eve of Valentine’s Day!
