Since the movie Jaws came into existence, everyone is completely petrified of sharks. They are the grueling monsters of the ocean who can strike without warning at any moment. Dangerous predators of the sea, the sheer sight of a shark fin sends shivers down one’s spine. For Michael Phelps, it was the opposite. Fascinated by these beautiful aquatic beasts, Phelps stepped into a shark cage to experience them closely.

Discovery’s shark week is a fascinating show about people who works with sharks. During one episode, Phelps had a close encounter with a shark. He had had it on his bucket list for a long time, and Phelps enjoyed this deadly experience with sharks. 

Michael Phelps’ date with sharks

In the video, he first jumps into the water and rests inside the shark cage. Soon after, he returns to explain how it is difficult to see anything underwater. After cracking a few jokes, he dove straight back into the cage. Suddenly, a great white shark appeared beneath his side, trying to bite the iron rods. His reaction speaks volumes. Coming back to explain his experience, Phelps saw the shark swimming right at him. 

Soon after, he saw the shark trying to break into the cage unsuccessfully. But as soon as it went away, another shark arrived that scared the cameraman away. The humongous shark came in wanting a piece of Phelps’. The remarkable swimmer loved the moment and finally fulfilled his lifelong wish.

However, these shark cages are not safe. Even though it looks like nothing’s going wrong, there are incidents of sharks getting into the enclosure.

Shark hazard

In a shark cage encounter video, we see a great white shark breaking into the cage with the diver inside it. The shark struggled to get out, and it came through the door on top. With the diver stuck inside, the shark leaped from the cage and escaped from the top. Onlookers tried to pull the pen ashore but failed to do it. Luckily, no one was hurt, and the shark escaped the cage.

However, Phelps has a tip if a hammerhead shark visits you. He explained how the shark had its mouth underneath, and you were required to grab hold of his hammer and shake it sideways. Of course, there is no proof you will escape unhurt, but it is a valuable tip for shark cage enthusiasts to keep in mind. As for Phelps, he finally fulfilled his lifelong dream of swimming with a shark.
