The cross-sporting athletes faced an unfamiliar crossroads in 2020 when both achieved breakthroughs in global events. Recently, vigilant fans caught a peek of the two practicing an identical warm-up. Is their practice merely?a ritual, a sign of splendor, or both?

Swimming and Sprinting now have some connecting dots

US Swimming Favorite Caeleb Dressel recently posted a series of pictures on his Instagram sporting a spectacular vertical jump facing the competition pool. He captioned the post, “Indy with my peeps” (translated from Spanish). While his jump-twin, Noah Lyles also posed mid-air as seen in a post by @HowLao on Twitter.

Both athletes have been actively participating in competitions this year adding feats to their portfolios. With an explosive personality and the potential to break the world’s fastest man record, Noah Lyles is an unstoppable track and field star. He raced in the Men’s 100m event in Florida in late April of this year, clocking a time of 9.92 s. In the Diamond League 100-meter sprint in mid-June, Lyles finished second.

Dressel took part in the 100-meter freestyle prelims winning third position clocking 47.93 s in Dressel in June. He also participated at the 2023 US National Championships and International Team Trials over one week but sadly, on July 1, the swimmer came 29th in the 50-meter freestyle in the Championship. This year has had a fair share of lows for the swimmer. However, do you know there was a time when their medals sparkled in the same event?

Swimming Legend’s Games highlights

During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics both the athletes won big despite the pandemic uncertainty. He won his first individual Olympic gold medal in the 100m freestyle event clocking 47.02 s adding a new Olympic record. Then again in the men’s 100m butterfly, he established a new world record winning his second individual gold. His swimming titles included the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly, 4×100-meter freestyle relay, and 4×100-meter medley relay.

In his Olympic debut in 2020, Lyles won a bronze medal in the 200-meter event. He also raced in the 100-meter race, however, couldn’t make it past the semi-finals. Despite his loss, he remained a tough competitor at the Games. Sharing a common industry, now their fans wish to see them come together to explore their shared core potential.
